Job Description
JOB DESCRIPTION Teach lower division courses in Chicanx/Latinx Studies Ethnic Studies and additional area(s) of expertise to a diverse student population. Participate in curriculum development and serve on department division college and district committees as necessary to maintain and improve the instructional program; participate in appropriate professional development activities. Participate in co-curricular activities including planning implementing and teaching in special programs designed to support student success. Participate in the formulation of Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) and the Student Learning Outcomes assessment cycle. Maintain formal office and campus hours; participate in department and division meetings. Maintain current knowledge of instructional methods and new technologies pertinent to areas of assignment; learn and apply emerging technologies and advances (e.g. computer software applications) as necessary to perform duties in an efficient organized and timely manner. Teach scheduled classes and perform related duties as assigned including timely compliance with clerical and administrative responsibilities; comply with district college and division policies in the performance of duties. Instruct and assist in the growth and success of a diverse population of students through careful preparation of course materials effective teaching methodologies and informed critical feedback on assignments and discussions. Develop culturally relevant course content culturally responsive pedagogical techniques and effective practices for engaging students who are diverse and/or are students who are historically underserved. The ideal candidate should have experience in this area with African American Latinx Native Americans Pacific Islanders and other disproportionately impacted students. Work cooperatively with staff and students. Evening and/or weekend assignments may be required as part of the regular contract.

Desirable Qualifications
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS Recent experience teaching Chicanx/Latinx Studies and/or Ethnic Studies courses in higher education. Degree in Chicana/o Studies Expertise in one or more of the following areas: Chicanx/Latinx History and Historiography Jotería Studies Central American Studies Restorative and Transformative Justice praxis and other related areas that deepen and expand the interdisciplinary landscape of Chicanx and Latinx Studies. Demonstrated experience and commitment to effectively teaching and mentoring Black/African American Latinx Indigenous/Native American Asian Pacific Islander American and/or other disproportionately impacted students using culturally affirming liberatory and community-centered pedagogies. Demonstrated ability to support community college students from diverse ages abilities genders sexual orientations religions racial and ethnic identities socioeconomic backgrounds and academic preparation levels grounded in intersectional and justice-oriented teaching practices. Interest and/or experience in teaching Ethnic Studies to high school students including dual enrollment and grades 912 Ethnic Studies courses with an understanding of age-appropriate culturally sustaining and developmentally responsive pedagogy. Commitment to ongoing and continuous improvement of ones teaching and mentorship practices to more effectively engage empower and affirm racially marginalized and disproportionately impacted students. Knowledge of and experience using effective instructional technologies and online pedagogies including training and/or certification in online teaching modalities. Experience designing creative student-centered and experiential learning environments such as project-based learning community-engaged or service learning and multimodal assessment practices. Demonstrated commitment to and active engagement with the discipline of Chicanx/Latinx Studies through scholarship creative work professional service and/or community-based involvement. Knowledge and application of major epistemological frameworks shaping Chicanx/Latinx Studies including disciplinary histories foundational and emergent theories decolonial and feminist methods major paradigm shifts and transformative pedagogical approaches.

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Masters in African-American/Black/Africana Studies or Latino Studies La Raza Studies Chicana/o Studies or Asian-American Studies or Native American/ American Indian Studies OR Masters in Ethnic Studies OR Possess a valid California teaching credential authorizing service in a community college in the appropriate subject matter area. OR The equivalent. Equivalent qualifications may include related education training employment and professional experience that would be equal to the required degree(s) and experience in this field as determined by the District Equivalency Committee.
