Job Summary

Our multinational client which deals in power generation and is focused on developing acquiring financing constructing and owning projects requires an experienced Shift Charge Engineer to join their team. Reporting to the Operations Manager you will be responsible for overseeing plant operations during your shift directing operators to run the plant safely efficiently and reliably. You will ensure the optimal performance of turbines generators HRSGs MSF distillation units auxiliary systems and substations while maintaining strict compliance with HSE policies and operational procedures.


Responsibilities

  • Direct plant operators to operate all plant equipment safely and reliably and ensure compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) environmental requirements and industry standards.
  • Oversee the efficient operation of all equipment including gas and steam turbines HRSGs generators MSF distillation units auxiliary systems and substations following OEM recommendations and best practices.
  • Ensure continuous plant operation optimizing external efficiency plant availability and reliability without compromising safety.
  • Enforce strict compliance with Operational Department Standard Operating Procedures including lockout/tagout emergency start-up and shutdown procedures.
  • Analyze plant operating problems and coordinate technical solutions with other operating shifts maintenance teams and technical departments while maintaining safety and reliability.
  • Supervise and conduct start-up and shutdown of gas turbines and auxiliary equipment including performing offline water washes to maintain efficient and uninterrupted operation.
  • Organize shift meetings and briefings to discuss plant status operational issues and priorities for the day.
  • Prepare and maintain daily weekly and monthly operational logs and reports including Plant Daily Status Reports for management review and decision-making.
  • Evaluate alarm signals and plant faults advising maintenance teams to troubleshoot isolate energy sources and facilitate safe repair works.
  • Direct and supervise operators and chemists providing training evaluating performance and conducting performance reviews in accordance with the organizations performance initiatives.
  • Ensure housekeeping and adherence to safety and environmental policies across the shift.
  • Maintain effective two-way communication with the System Control Centre (SCC) to update ECG on plant availability and reliability ensuring compliance with the PPA and avoiding penalties.
  • Oversee and implement permit-to-work processes including confined space entry tests hot-work permits and lockout/tagout procedures to ensure employee and equipment safety.
  • Report immediately to the Operations Manager in the event of accidents injuries plant upsets or equipment failures that could impact availability or safety.
  • Coordinate with other shift supervisors departments and shared facilities personnel to analyze and resolve operational issues.
  • Initiate input for generation of plant statistics enabling maintenance planning and accurate PPA billing.
  • Undertake joint monthly readings with enclave personnel for shared facilities and energy meters to support ISA-related payments.
  • Ensure operators meet production goals and maintain operational efficiency targets.
  • Coordinate and oversee activities of shift supervisors departments and shared facilities personnel.
  • Portray the position of Shift Charge Engineer professionally fostering teamwork accountability and operational excellence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager or Facility Manager to effectively support the organisations goals.


Requirements



  • Must have at least a Bachelors degree in an Electrical/ Electronic Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Must have a minimum of four (4) years experience as a Shift Charge Engineer or six (6) years as a Control Room Operator in a Thermal Generation Combined Cycle Power Plant.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of Plant Health Safety and Environment (HSE) policies and requirements.
  • Must have extensive experience in Thermal Generation Combined Cycle Power Plant operations.
  • Proven ability to operate the plant and auxiliary equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Possesses in-depth knowledge of plant operating procedures standards and best practices.
  • Must have an advanced understanding of the Safety Work Permit System including LOTO and risk control processes.
  • Ability to develop review and implement operations procedures.
  • Proven capability to train operators on Gas Turbines (GT) Steam Turbines (ST) HRSG and auxiliary/BOP systems.
  • Ability to manage emergency and critical plant operations while maintaining safety and reliability.
  • Familiarity with plant safe operating limits alarm limits and trip settings.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Strong incident reporting investigation and analysis skills with experience using tools such as trenders alarm viewers and control system diagnostics
  • Must demonstrate strong communication (written and verbal) skills
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office tools like Excel Word and PowerPoint.
  • Must possess strong leadership teamwork and problem-solving abilities with a track record of supervising technical teams effectively.
