The Senior IT Technician serves as an experienced technical resource responsible for supporting maintaining and configuring computer systems software applications cloud storage tools and enterprise management systems. This position joins devices to configuration management platforms using Microsoft Active Directory Group Policy and Microsoft Intune troubleshoots technical issues and ensures adherence to security principles. The technician researches emerging technologies makes support recommendations and may assist with computer-controlled laboratory equipment and academic technology environments.
The Senior IT Technician provides comprehensive technical and desktop support by troubleshooting software issues on desktops laptops and other end-user devices; setting up new technology including installation and maintenance; wiping and reinstalling desktops and laptops with updated operating systems and applications tailored to user requirements; and updating the NetReg and Asset systems when hardware is assigned. The position installs engineering software applications troubleshoots hardware problems down to the component level when needed and maintains specialized technical equipment. The technician sets up technology-based equipment possesses general knowledge across a variety of technical areas and provides general technical guidance and direction to users in resolving complex technical problems.
The role also includes event support coordinating with event organizers on scheduling setup and logistics; providing on- and off-campus audio/visual support for TCE-sponsored events; setting up configuring testing and troubleshooting presentation hardware; training on-site presenters in the use of technology; and troubleshooting time-critical audio/visual malfunctions. The technician independently or jointly configures Zoom and other web video or audio-conferencing technologies and supplies primary or secondary backup A/V hardware in the event of equipment failure. Additional responsibilities include organizational and clerical tasks as directed maintaining and assisting with conference room and classroom technology equipment and surplusing old hardware.
Required Qualifications
Knowledge Skills Abilities:
Knowledge of Mac and Windows hardware configuration software installation and operating systems.
Ability to use a ticketing system to track work and recommend solutions to users.
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory and Microsoft Intune.
Able to work independently volunteer and take ownership of problems and projects and work in a fast-paced environment.
Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate to users with a wide range of technical understanding both written and orally.
Working knowledge of computer networking and DNS/DHCP; experience with MS Office products for Windows and Mac; experience with e-mail clients.
Ability to learn new IT systems and processes and stay current on IT-related best practices and security requirements.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to research new technologies and make recommendations of support.
Preferred Qualifications
Education: Bachelors degree in computer science Computer Engineering IT Technology field with a focus on software and hardware
Experience:
4-5 years of experience in a computer hardware and software technical environment
1-3 years of experience working in an academic environment or
1-3 years of experience working with computer-controlled laboratory equipment
Knowledge Skills Abilities:
Ability to join computer systems to a configuration management system using Microsoft Active Directory Group Policy and Microsoft Intune
Knowledge of computer security principles
Skills in Cloud Storage Applications such as Microsoft OneDrive
Rudimentary knowledge of Linux/Linux/Unix operating systems
