Job Summary
The Key Workers primary role is to support young people throughout their stay. They provide individualised case management building strong rapport to identify strengths and areas for growth with a focus on independent living skills and cultural and community connections. Using social emotional wellbeing and cultural frameworks the Key Worker helps each young person develop a tailored plan with clear goals and regular progress reviews ensuring they are prepared for a successful transition to independent addition the Key Worker supports Volunteer Mentors through regular supervision and guidance in collaboration with the programs Senior Manager Youth Services and Housing Pathways.

GEGAC is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation based in Bairnsdale Victoria. Consisting of about 200 staff GEGAC is a Not-for-Profit organisation that delivers holistic services in the areas of Primary Health Social Services Elders & Disability and Early Childhood Education.
GEGAC advocates for the self-determination of the Aboriginal community by prioritising services that enhance social emotional and spiritual wellbeing with culture at the heart of everything we do.

Key Selection Criteria
Qualification and/or high level of experience in social work community services or housing related discipline.
High level of administrative skills and computer literacy and effective time management skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills including well- developed communication advocacy and negotiation skills.
A demonstrated knowledge of the local Aboriginal community culture and understanding of factors that impact the social economic spiritual wellbeing and housing of Aboriginal people and their family networks.
Demonstrated ability to develop tailored case plans that identify and prioritise support needs.
Experience and understanding of homelessness the public/community housing sectors and associated key stakeholders and support agencies would be highly regarded.
An ability to work in a culturally appropriate and respectful manner with the Aboriginal community.
Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the Youth employment education and training.
Experience in effectively engaging young people who have had an out of home care experiences and/or are at risk of homelessness.
An ability to facilitate individual and group workshops and events aimed at young people.
An ability to work effectively with Aboriginal organisations Government departments and community service organisations.
Qualifications and Registrations Requirement (Essential or Desirable).
A relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work Psychology Youth Work and/or related behavioural sciences at degree level with substantial experience; or associate diploma level with substantial experience in the relevant service stream or less formal qualifications with specialised skills sufficient to perform at this level ESSENTIAL
Valid drivers licence ESSENTIAL
A satisfactory Working with Children Check and Fit2Work Police Check ESSENTIAL
A person of Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander background DESIRABLE
Proof of COVID-19 vaccinated to align with GEGAC requirements ESSENTIAL
