Job Summary

Are you passionate about Para sport and driven to make a difference in Paralympic athlete development Paralympics Australia (PA) are looking for a Classification Specialist NSO Support to join our dynamic team on a fixed-term contract until 30 June 2026.

The Role

Under the guidance of the Classification Lead NSO Support the Classification Specialist- NSO Support is responsible for working with a portfolio of NSOs to coordinate the delivery of sport-specific classification programs in collaboration with PA the NIN and relevant State and Territory Member Associations. The role will be the first point of contact for their defined sport portfolios for all requirements to support their Classification needs while being the main point of collaboration and knowledge sharing to identify and deliver on opportunities for learning and to create efficiencies in the delivery of Classification between sports. Using their network connections and collaborative spirit the Classification Specialist will be an enabler to the delivery of new and updated initiatives to facilitate participation retention and progression in Para sport working actively with the PA Pathways team to support the increase of athletes entering and progressing through Paralympic Performance Pathways.

The role will require occasional interstate travel and weekend work.

The Person

You are a process driven collaborator who thrives in supporting teams and groups of people in performing and achieving their goals. You are an enabler who likes to work across multiple subject areas and may even have an understanding or lived experience of Para sport Classification or the Australian sport system. You are a critical thinker who loves a challenge and you are skilled in translating the needs of various groups back to a central mandate and goal all while forming and maintaining strong relationships. You have demonstrated success in bringing together different stakeholders to a common goal.

Your experience and track record demonstrate confidence and capability in policy and process implementation volunteer management event delivery and working with sensitive data. The ideal candidate for this role is highly organised with a high attention to detail and a confident communicator. Being self-motivated the incumbent will be driven to contribute to an energetic team in fast-paced environment which provides opportunities for individuals to reach their full potential through sport.

Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge of the Para journey which may include lived experience of athlete pathways and/or Classification or the sports sector in line with the outcomes of the position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop implement and monitor sport-specific Classification strategies plans policies procedures and budgets in partnership with portfolio NSOs.
  • Coordinate deliver and grow sport-specific Classification opportunities for portfolio NSOs including provisional national and locally hosted international Classification opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant Classification Rules and Regulations and the IPC Classification Code as appropriate to portfolio NSOs.
  • Oversee Classification complaints protests and appeals ensuring fair and transparent resolution processes for portfolio NSOs.
  • Recruit train accredit and manage sport-specific physical impairment classifiers within portfolio NSOs including provision of ongoing professional development opportunities in alignment with International Federation conventions and Australian sport system frameworks.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in sport management allied health education sport science and/or a related discipline is preferable although not essential depending upon experience.
  • Current Working with Childrens Check.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship skills and a collaborative attribute.
  • The ability to work with and foster agreement amongst multiple stakeholder groups.
  • Experience working with informational data sets and sensitive and confidential information.
  • Strong administrative and communication skills.
  • Understanding of the Australian Sport system Para sport Classification or other aligned processes are preferable.
