Job Description
Stevens Institute of Technology invites nominations and applications for the position of Assistant Vice President for Facilities (AVP). Reporting to the Vice President for Facilities & Campus Operations the AVP is a strategic dynamic and highly operational leader responsible for directing the Physical Plant Campus Infrastructure and Business Services departments. The AVP will also assist the Vice President with capital project oversight planning and execution as needed.
Ideal candidates will have deep hands-on experience managing comprehensive facilities operationsfrom custodial and grounds waste removal and day-to-day mechanical systems to HVAC electrical and central plant operations. Candidates whose experience is limited to a single specialty area (such as construction management engineering design sustainability or energy alone) will not meet the requirements. We seek a seasoned operator who has progressed from field-based or frontline facility roles into senior leadership.

Ours to Create. and has now embarked on The Assistant Vice President will lead facilities operations so that the Vice President can focus on working with the university community architects and the local community in creating a vision for the university while embarking upon the institutions master plan.
Major Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
Responsible for the overall management supervision and performance of all facilities operations including:
Maintenance & Trades
HVAC: automated controls air handlers steam stations pneumatic systems refrigeration
Electrical Systems: normal and emergency power (120v4160v) generators ATS systems monitoring LED lighting
Plumbing: domestic water lab waste gas/air/vacuum systems RO/DI systems
Carpentry & Painting: doors/automated doors sheetrock ceilings painting fire stopping minor construction
Fire & Life Safety: fire alarms sprinklers/standpipes chemical treatment
Grounds Custodial & General Services
Grounds maintenance snow removal landscaping event setups/breakdowns
Waste/trash removal recycling and overall campus presentation
Fleet maintenance for all Facilities & Operations vehicles
Campus Infrastructure & Central Plant
Chiller plant operations
Utility plants and distribution systems
Energy management systems and utility procurement
Building Management Systems (BMS) and CMMS optimization
Business Services
Post Office/mail and receiving operations
Stockroom accounts payable/receivable work order systems dispatch
Lock Shop
Keying systems and campus-wide card access management
Capital Projects Support
Assist the Vice President in oversight of capital projects to ensure scope budget quality and timelines are met
Assist with architect/engineer selection contractor bidding and early-stage project planning
Collaborate with Design & Construction and Sustainability/Transportation on long-term campus energy strategies including EV charging expansion
Leadership & Administration
Lead and develop a team of managers foremen engineers mechanics custodians and unionized staff
Provide 24/7 operational leadership including participation in the Manager On Call rotation
Establish work schedules ensuring sevenday campus coverage
Maintain compliance with authorities having jurisdiction
Direct union shop staff and manage labor relations
Develop and manage annual operating budgets
Prepare reports KPIs and performance dashboards
Ensure an attractive safe compliant and welcoming campus environment

Minimum Qualifications
BS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field; advanced degree (MBA) and professional certifications preferred
10 years of progressive hands-on facilities management experience ideally in higher education; corporate/institutional/hospital 24x7 environments considered
Demonstrated leadership across ALL core facilities operations including:
Custodial
Grounds
Waste and recycling
Trades (HVAC MEP electrical plumbing)
Central plant operations
Building systems and controls
Experience progressing from field operations to senior operational leadership
At least five years of bargaining unit supervision in a unionized environment
Knowledge of CMMS BMS and modern facilities technologies
Experience using AI tools for operational and financial efficiency highly preferred
Ability to respond to emergency conditions and function effectively under pressure
Preferred Qualifications
Expertise in mechanical electrical and plumbing systems
Experience with utility distribution networks and energy conservation programs
Strong background in crossfunctional operational management in a 24/7 campus or institutional setting
Location
This position is primarily on-campus and requires availability during emergencies and critical events.

In compliance with the New Jersey Wage Transparency Act the annual base salary range for this position is $180200.00 - $252266.67. This range represents the Universitys good faith estimate of possible compensation at the time of posting. Stevens Institute of Technology determines compensation based on factors including the positions scope and responsibilities the candidates experience education skills internal equity market data and organizational considerations. The final salary will be set considering departmental budget qualifications and relevant credentials. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes additional forms of compensation such as incentives stipends or other applicable pay components.
