The Legal Analyst will ensure conformity and adherence with all applicable state and federal laws rules and regulations while processing writs/levies/liens/garnishments and Information Subpoenas received by the Bank and provide support and direction to the branch network. The Legal Analyst must be able to evaluate information and risk in real time to service both internal and external customers and multi-task between repetitive detail-oriented tasks and dynamic situations within a single day. The ability to make decisions independently by relying on prior experiences available resources and judgment is required. This position may also require processing some other subpoena types and providing administrative support to the Legal Department.
Job Responsibilities:
- Process garnishments/writs of execution (tax and civil) and child support levies/liens accurately timely and in adherence with all applicable state and federal laws rules and regulations.
- Research and analyze whether it is appropriate to honor garnishment/writ/levy and whether available accounts can be garnished.
- Charge customer accounts the proper fee where required.
- Freeze customer accounts as necessary and debit customer accounts to pay garnishment/levy when required.
- Draft appropriate responses and send required correspondence to requesting parties and customers.
- Utilize and appropriately update the WSFS legal documents processing application to accurately reflect actions taken and the status of a particular writ/garnishment/lien/levy.
- Communicate with all parties involved (internal and external) regarding inquiries concerning these document types.
- Answer legal-banking inquiries from branch Associates. The areas of inquiry from branch Associates include but are not limited to: check endorsements review of business documentation approval for account closures research review and approval of estate documentation and various types of court orders/documents assistance with special account titling trust accounts powers of attorney (researching state law where applicable) etc.
- Research answers to legal-banking questions using internal and external resources evaluate and mitigate low to medium risk to the bank and make appropriate recommendations/decisions.
- Take primary responsibility for monitoring and responding (or assigning to team members as appropriate) questions sent to the Legal Department email mailbox and Legal hotline.
- Provide occasional general administrative support (opening and distributing mail)
- Assist in special projects and tasks for the department as directed.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate/Bachelors degree or minimum of one year of legal documents processing experience preferably in banking or financial services industry required.
- Understanding of legal terminology required.
- Knowledge of bank records bank products and retrieval procedures preferred.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word. Excellent typing skills.
- Ability to operate effectively under pressure work independently and provide advice/make decisions as appropriate.
- Ability to deal discreetly with confidential information.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to interact professionally with customers attorneys governmental agencies and bank Associates.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks under tight time constraints.
Salary Range:
$47235.00 - $77601.75
Individual base pay may vary on additional factors such as the candidates experience job-related skills relevant education geographic location and other specific business and organizational needs.
