Our multinational client a leader in power generation focused on developing acquiring financing constructing and owning energy projects requires an experienced Control Room Operator to join their team. Reporting to the Shift Charge Engineer and Operations Manager you will oversee the safe and efficient operation of major plant equipment monitor turbines generators and auxiliary systems prepare switching orders coordinate field operators respond to emergencies and ensure adherence to company procedures and regulatory requirements. You will also maintain operational logs perform specialized plant operations support fuel handling and provide training on plant systems serving as the central point for reliable and compliant plant operations.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and operate plant equipment and systems to ensure they function according to established procedures and operational parameters.
- Take immediate corrective actions to maintain safe compliant and efficient operations optimizing plant availability and fuel efficiency.
- Maintain detailed logs of all significant operating activities events and plant parameters as directed by management.
- Serve as the focal point for communications during emergencies professionally handling calls and coordinating response actions.
- Direct guide and coordinate activities of field operators to support plant operations and maintenance activities.
- May participate in fuel handling storage and treatment as directed by the SCE.
- Prepare and execute switching orders tags and lockout/tagout procedures in line with operational safety protocols.
- Conduct online and offline water washing of gas turbines and ensure their auxiliaries operate efficiently.
- Plan schedule and supervise routine and planned maintenance outages to minimize downtime and optimize plant performance.
- Prepare detailed operational performance and incident reports for management review.
- Conduct training for plant personnel on the operation of equipment auxiliaries and safety procedures.
- Liaise with key stakeholders including ECG GRIDCo and other regulatory authorities ensuring alignment with operational requirements.
- Ensure compliance with Health Safety and Environmental (HSE) policies company procedures and regulatory standards.
- Maintain a clean orderly and safe control room and work environment.
- Report immediately to the Shift Charge Engineer or designated delegate in the event of accidents personnel injuries or equipment failures that could impact plant availability.
- Perform shift duties as scheduled including back shifts weekends and as required based on operational needs.
- Portray the role of Control Room Operator professionally at all times fostering teamwork accountability and operational excellence.
- Perform other duties assigned by the Shift Charge Engineer Operations Manager or Facility Manager to support overall plant operations.
Requirements
- Must have at least a Bachelors degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Must possess a minimum of four (4) years of experience as a Control Room Operator or six (6) years of experience as a Field Operator in a Thermal Generation Combined Cycle Power Plant.
- Must have relevant knowledge and understanding of Plant Health Safety and Environment policies.
- Ability to read and interpret process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID) as well as prepare log and technical reports.
- Ability to handle emergency and critical plant operations while ensuring safety and reliability.
- Possess a clear understanding of the thermodynamic principles governing the operation of Combined Cycle Power Plants.
- Ability to train on GT ST HRSG and their Auxiliary equipment including BOP systems.
- Must be experienced in planning coordinating and supervising scheduled outages as well as preparing plant reports.
- Must have experience liaising with key stakeholders such stakeholders ECG GRIDCo WCGC GNGC etc.
- Must demonstrate strong communication (written and verbal) collaboration and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with the safe operating limits the alarm limits and trip limits of the plant equipment.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office tools like Excel Word and PowerPoint.
- Must be able to work shifts including nights weekends and as needed for plant operations.
Required Skills:
Must have at least a Bachelors degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Must have a minimum of three (3) years experience in the same role in a Thermal Generation Combined Cycle Power Plant of over 200MW capacity or five (5) years experience as a Field Operator in a similar facility.
