A vacancy has arisen for a Squadron Leader (Any) to serve as the SO2 ISTAR Reserves (CCap) within the 1 Gp Project Joint Venture (JV) hereafter SO2 ISTAR Res (CCap). The post is based at RAF Waddington with remote / hybrid working approved on Part Time Volunteer Reserve (PTVR) Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS) with an initial proposed start date of 02 February 2026 (or earlier dependant on candidate circumstances).
The SO2 ISTAR Res (CCap) will work within a dynamic team tasked with improving the support given by the Reserves to the RAF Front Line. The incumbent will work directly for SO1 ISTAR and will be focussed on developing PTVR support to Combat Air ISTAR or Air Mobility (AM) areas as required. Work-strands include the identification of areas where the Regular Services ISTAR function requires requests or could be augmented by RAF Reserve support and the matching of Reserve assets to meet that requirement. The team will also be engaged with advancing the X Flight (PTVR flight on front-line squadrons) concept amongst the ISTAR function. Remote / hybrid working is encouraged for this position noting that successful candidates will be required to travel to RAF Waddington or other RAF Stations as appropriate on a number of occasions throughout the year.
SO2 ISTAR Res (CCap) will work within the wider JV team and be responsible for:
Acting as principal PoC between 1 Gp Reserves and ISTAR fce elements
Embedding JV pers into ISTAR fce elements
Developing current and future Reserve capability workstrands based on own initiative and on direction from SO1 ISTAR and / or Gp Capt 1 Gp Reserves
Input into production of a CONEMP for future PTVR utilisation across ISTAR.
Provision of education and guidance to ISTAR elements on types of Reserves and Reserve employment
Assisting the ISTAR capability with the co-ordination of reserve support linking into Res HQs across the full range of Professions
Promotion of coordination with RAuxAF Sqns
