GUIDES Student Ambassador

Position Summary
Career Readiness Learning Objectives: Equity & Inclusion: Student Ambassadors will expand their understanding of people from demographic groups different from their own while promoting equitable practices that lead to systemic changes in science education. Communication: Student Ambassadors will engage in conversation with fellow Student Ambassadors as well as Gannon science faculty and staff members using active listening and clear speech and writing skills to convey their ideas in a mutually respectful and positive way. Critical Thinking: Student Ambassadors will gather and analyze information from a variety of selected literature sources and then summarize conclusions thoughtfully and accurately after reflecting upon their new knowledge conversations and experiences. The Gannon University School of Sciences is pleased to welcome applications for our third cohort of our popular GUIDES Science Alliance program! The Science Alliance is part of Gannons commitment to fostering inclusive spaces where all members of our learning community feel that they belong and can thrive in math and the sciences. We warmly invite you to apply to become part of our learning community as a GUIDES Student Ambassador ! Each month GUIDES Student Ambassadors will read one chapter from our featured book for Spring 2026 Pedagogy of Kindness by Catherine Denial. Student Ambassadors will visit an introductory STEM course taught by one of our GUIDES Faculty Fellows and will complete a guided reflection exercise to connect ideas from our readings to actual practices in the classroom. GUIDES Student Ambassadors and GUIDES Faculty Fellows will come together for a reflection meeting each month. We will celebrate lessons learned and top takeaways related to inclusive teaching and learning considering each persons unique student or faculty perspective. GUIDES Student Ambassadors advance transformative inclusive excellence initiatives in equal partnership with Gannon science and mathematics faculty staff and fellow students. Ambassadors will deepen connections with these partners while developing numerous career readiness skills endorsed by the National Association of Colleges and Employers ( NACE ) including equity & inclusion teamwork leadership communication critical thinking professionalism and career & self-development.

Required Qualifications
Students in any class year and in any major (science or non-science) are welcome and encouraged to apply. Previous Science Alliance members are eligible to apply. Completion of at least one full-time semester of coursework at Gannon Completion of one or more introductory science or mathematics courses at Gannon* Cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher from previous semester(s) of coursework * An introductory science course is a 100-level course in BIOL CHEM or MATH or a 100- or 200-level course in PHYS .
