Job Summary

General Summary

Under direct supervision of the Equipment Coordinator of Respiratory Services the Respiratory Care Equipment Technician shall deliver and stock equipment and supplies throughout the hospital and clinic areas as well as clean process and reassemble respiratory equipment for use by the Respiratory Therapists.

Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.

  •  As part of their daily routine the Equipment Technician delivers respiratory equipment such as ventilators and disposable supplies from the respiratory department and/or materials management to the stockrooms on the nursing units and clinic areas. The Equipment Technician responds to emergency requests from respiratory therapists physicians and nursing staff.

A. Checks and maintains respiratory equipment stock levels in the storerooms on hospital floors on a daily basis.

B. Conducts a count of all oxygen tanks stocked in the tank-holding area of Respiratory Care Department on a daily basis and reports need and/or deficits to the Equipment Coordinator for order placement.

  • Disassembles cleans/processes and reassembles equipment including ventilators and high humidity set-ups.

A. Changes the Respiratory Care departments bactericidal cleaning agent in the Dirty Utility Room and dates and labels old container on a biweekly basis.

  • Performs related duties as required.

Qualifications :

  • High school diploma or a state high school equivalency certificate (GED) is required.
  • Basic understanding and ability to use the English language.
  • Ability to understand and interpret the technical language of respiratory therapists and other health care professionals.
  • Demonstrated ability to read understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Effective and legible writing skills are necessary to appropriately document gauge readings.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to learn the assemblage of respiratory equipment.
  • Ability to push/pull equipment (including size H oxygen cylinders) of no more than 100 pounds.
  • Ability to walk and stand 100% of the time in delivering supplies and stocking storerooms.
