Summary/Objective: The Tool Maker supports Armstrong Rapid Manufacturings overall production objectives by designing fabricating and maintaining specialized tools and fixtures used in manufacturing operations. This role works from engineering drawings CAD models and sketches to create tooling for production use. Responsibilities include interpreting specifications laying out and preparing materials setting up and operating manual machine tools and fitting and assembling components. The Tool Maker fabricates repairs and modifies metalworking tooling cutting tools jigs fixtures and gauges. Some machining of secondary production operations is required. The position requires performing complex toolmaking tasks with a high degree of precision and craftsmanship.
Job Responsibilities:
- Computes dimensions plans layout and determines manufacturing methods and sequence of operations for assigned tasks.
- Sets up and operates manual machine tools such as lathes mills and grinders to machine parts and verifies conformance of machined parts to specifications.
- Examines standard or previously used tools and jigs and fixtures or other such items and recommends design modifications regarding construction and function of tools and fixtures.
- Develops specifications from general descriptions for specialty tools and draws or sketches design of product as required.
- Uses precision measurement instruments such as micrometers height gauges and calipers to ensure all work meets the required specifications.
- Adjusts troubleshoots and repairs worn or broken tooling fixtures jigs gauges etc.
- Assists Manufacturing and Engineering with machining finishing and assembly processes.
- Participates in job launches.
- Meets quality and quantity standards for the position
- Adheres to all safety policies and practices consistently uses personal protective equipment and practices good housekeeping.
- Maintains regular on time attendance and adheres to company policies procedures and standards of conduct.
- Proactively supports the ISO process approach to quality management and the Syteline MIS system.
- Performs other tasks as directed.
Educational Experience Based and Skill Qualifications
- Journeyperson Toolmaker with ten (10) years of shop experience.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good math skills
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and utilize a wide variety of gauges and measurement tools.
Physical Requirements
Ability to walk remain on feet for extended time periods reach stoop. Kneel and lift up to and including 50 pounds as needed. Visual abilities and manual dexterity.
