Please note this is a FULL TIME one-year contract. This position is also entitled to an extensive benefits package. Applicants must be a graduating full-time undergraduate student (taking 18 units or more) at the time of applying or have been an MSU member within the last 12 months. This position may also be taken as a co-op through the Faculty of Engineering.
This position will have the occasional opportunity for work from home however it will be required on campus on a regular basis.

GeneralPurpose &Scope
The MSU represents full-time undergraduate students at McMaster University. The MSU purpose is to draw into a true society all students at McMaster pursuit of this it will foster activities and events which will enhance the University experience of its members and contribute to the life of the University as a whole. Further it will seek to facilitate communication between the student body the University and other organizations and will organize and regulate student self-government.
Budget/Finances/Materials
- Assist in the selection and implementation of new computer software and hardware.
- Assist the IT Department with periodic hardware and software audits across the MSU to ensure equipment is recorded and accounted for.
InternalCommunications/Collaboration
- Communicate and corroborate with the Senior IT Technician to identify key areas for work.
- Offer effective and reliable communication with MSU staff to ensure technical support is made available.
- Discuss potential IT projects with relevant staff members where appropriate.
Innovation/Initiative
- Assist in the developmentand implementationofITprojectsas requested by the Senior IT Technician and/or the Director of ITon occasion.
Judgement/Thinking
- Assist in the reallocation of displaced computer systems including the formatting and reinstall of system software.
- Collaborate with members of the IT Department to ensure the security of information within MSU-owned technical systems.
Decisions/Actions
- Assist in the proper preparation of all systems removed from the network to ensure the secure disposal of network assets and confidential removal of all information contained on the equipment.
- Offerfirmware/hardwaretechnical support for any staff member(s) in need of additional technical expertiseas it pertains to:
- Windows and/or Apple workstations and/or laptops;
- Networked printers and/or photocopiers of various makes/models; and
- Other peripherals (modems switches routers USB devices etc.).
- Offer software technical support for any staff member(s) in need of additional technical expertise including but not limited to the operations of:
- OfficeSuite;
- Antivirus;
- Accounting/payroll;
- Point of sales (POS) systems; and
- Graphic design; scheduling etc.

- Desktop computers; and
- Laptop computers.
- Experience with software including:
- Microsoft Office 365; and
- Antivirus software.
