Job Summary

Responsibilities:

Key deliverables to be performed by the Business Intelligence Specialist role include but are not limited to the following:

  • Supports Clients wide-ranging business information requirements implementing and supporting business intelligence software solutions
  • Develops and supports customized query applications which analyze key business data
  • Develops and supports guided analysis and drill-down functionality routine scheduling and notification of report generation and effective implementation of opportunity and key-trend alerts.
  • Provides Clients with approach options and tools for managing business-related data in a manner that assists in quantitative analysis of progress and the relationship between operational actions and their effect on business objectives.
  • Familiarity with Oracle database structures SQL Server and their respective features. Understanding of Oracle SQL and PL/SQL
  • Develops reports in Cognos and Power BI to satisfy business requirements.
  • Can translate business requirements to data models that are accurate representations of the business processes.
  • Develop presentations for various audiences as required.
  • Work with the business and IT areas to complete any activities required to accomplish above and other deliverables as required during the assignment.
  • Working knowledge of cloud infrastructure and software as a service using Azure Databricks and Power BI is an asset.
  • Transfer skills and knowledge to selected OPS staff.

Must Have:

  • Demonstrates business analysis experience in an environment where Oracle Informatica and Cognos are used together for data warehousing and business intelligence.
  • Experience in ETL processes particularly as it relates to migrating data into Power BI-compatible formats. Familiarity with ETL tools (e.g. SSIS Informatica)
  • Demonstrates experience designing and developing BI Reports Dashboards and other Business Intelligence solutions using Cognos 10 or higher and Microsoft Power BI
  • Experience gathering and eliciting requirements for BI application (Cognos and Power BI)


Skill Set Requirements:

Technical Skills:

  • Demonstrates business analysis experience in an environment where Oracle Informatica and Cognos are used together for data warehousing and business intelligence.
  • Experience working with data warehouse systems and understanding the design and concepts of it.
  • Experience in ETL processes particularly as it relates to migrating data into Power BI-compatible formats. Familiarity with ETL tools (e.g. SSIS Informatica)
  • Demonstrates experience designing and developing BI Reports Dashboards and other Business Intelligence solutions using Cognos 10 or higher and Microsoft Power BI
  • Working knowledge of the entire Data Dictionary and data mapping
  • Working knowledge of the Business Process Design Re-engineering for applications.
  • Experience with analyzing data in source systems to identify data cleanliness issues (E.g. missing values duplicate meanings and invalid data)
  • Experience with developing automation extraction cleansing and load scripts
  • Experience generating research models and reports (scheduled and ad-hoc)
  • Demonstrated experience advising on existing data sets models and transformations to enhance business intelligence reporting
  • Experience working with Oracle Databases (version 10.x or higher) DB2 Database.
  • Demonstrates strong MS Excel skills including working knowledge of Power Query Pivot Tables


Core Skills:

  • Experience gathering and eliciting requirements for BI application (Cognos and Power BI)
  • Experience with systems design and development and related methods techniques practices and standards.
  • Experience performing the design of data warehouse and related components.
  • Working Knowledge of technology data databases applications and networking techniques tools and practices enable you to lead the design and development of infrastructure support projects.
  • Experience Documenting applications designs and specifications and draft policies and procedures.
  • Working Knowledge of aggregate reporting.
  • Troubleshooting of production issues and creating fixes for any unplanned deployments.
  • Prior experience with BI migration projects particularly involving Power BI or from another reporting tool like Tableau Cognos.
  • Proven troubleshooting and analytical experience
  • Experience in process decomposition/mapping and business process re-engineering and complex data models using UML.
  • Experience in the use of development tools and business re-engineering software
  • Experience Designing and developing enterprise-wide data analysis and reporting solutions
  • Experience reviewing and analyzing data from multiple internal and external sources
  • Familiarity with the source system(s) being migrated from (e.g. Cognos SSRS Qlik) can be a significant advantage as it allows for smoother data mapping and validation
  • Ability to use BI tools and data models effectively to help visualize or monitor data
  • Proven experience using a variety of methodologies to carry-out the software development lifecycle (e.g. Agile waterfall etc.).


Communication Skills:

  • Experience working with both the business users and IT development teams to ensure business requirements are properly reflected in the system design and technical specifications.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to assess clients business priorities and needs; to evaluate business and technical design alternatives.
  • Exceptional organization and presentation skills
  • Good written verbal and interpersonal skills


Project Management Skills:

  • Experience in the development of various deliverables of various roles including but not limited to project coordinator release management requirements analyst system designer system tester trainer etc. throughout SDLC.
