Job Summary

Key to Commits success is a robust strategic marketing communication and stakeholder engagement effort developing content activatingand influencing stakeholders and continuously building partnerships and momentum around the impact of public education systems change.

Commit seeks an experienced marketing and communications leader to join our leadership team as theManaging Director of Marketing Communications and Engagementto play a pivotal role overseeing all marketing branding events/convenings and communication functions.

This is a unique opportunity for astrategic ambitious leaderwho thrives at the intersection of storytelling data and impact. You will serve as a chief architect of Commits public narrative helping to elevate the regions collective effortswhile building and executing strategic events and engagement to activate external stakeholders to ensure every young personregardless of race income or backgroundhas the opportunity toearn a living wage.

Salary Range: $150000-$182000

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Strategic Leadership and Vision

  • In partnership with theExecutive Leadership Teamestablishand executea long-term vision andmulti-year strategic stakeholder engagement and communications planto increase awareness influence and impact across diverse audiences (educators policymakers funders community partners and the public).
  • Align marketing engagementand communication strategies with Commitspriorityeducational systemsEffective TalentAcademic Readinessand Postsecondary Access & Successto ensure narrative coherence and measurable results.
  • Serve as astrategic advisor to the CEOPresidentCOO and senior leadership providing counsel on messaging brand reputation public relations andexternal stakeholder engagement.
  • Drive strategicframing and influenceacross internal and external audiences synthesizing data values and storiesto build understanding and inspire action.

2. ExternalPartnershipRelationship Development and Management

  • Lead multi-yearcomprehensivecampaignsin collaboration withnumerousexternal partners to increase regional and statewide outcomes focused on effective educator talent instructional systems and quality college and career-readiness postsecondary access and success and others asidentified.
  • Serve asaMarketing and Communicationsconsultantfor Education is Freedom dedicating approximately25% of time to developing and executing strategic marketingand communicationplans that advance shared impact goals.
  • Build and manage a network ofstrategic partners and vendors(media PR creative agencies researchersetc) to amplify storytelling and extend capacity.
  • Develop and cultivate relationships with media partners school district communication leaders and other marketing communication and engagement peers across the ecosystem.
  • Build andleverageaMarketing and Communications Advisory Committeeprovidingadditionalexpertise and capacity.

3. Team and Organizational Leadership

  • Lead coach and develop ateam of6professionalsfostering a culture of ownership creativityhigh-expectationsand continuous learning.
  • Serve on the Executive Leadership teamproviding marketing communications and activationexpertiseand guidance whilerepresentingthe Marketing Communications and Engagement Team.
  • Build systems and processesthat support effective execution cross-team collaboration and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Model inclusive trust-based leadershipthat reinforces Commits culture of joy integrity and shared accountability.
  • Support staff across the organizationbuilding internal brand ambassadorsensuring access to relevant information tools and resources that enhance clarity and cohesion in messaging.

4. Execution and Measurement

  • Manage the full communications and marketing portfolioincluding earned media narrative change digital engagement design events and internal communicationsto achieve measurable outcomes.
  • Establish and trackclear KPIsthat measure audience reach engagement and impact across all channels (social web podcast earned media newsletters and events).
  • Ensurehigh-qualitytimelyexecutionacross projects by setting clear standardsanticipatingbarriers and coordinating with cross-functional teams.
  • Lead the development of a stakeholderengagement scorecardthat tracks reach engagement andperception ensuring data-driven continuous improvement.
Qualifications
  • 10 years of progressive experience in marketing communicationsjournalismor public or governmental affairs; nonprofiteducation public policysector experience preferred.
  • Experiencedeveloping and executing messaging aligned with public policy initiativeshighlypreferred.
  • Demonstrated success in leading complex multi-channel campaigns and growing brand awareness.
  • Demonstrated experience executing small- and large-scale events driving audiences to take desired actions.
  • Strong data fluencyable to design and interpret KPIs and use insights for decision-making.
  • Experience withSalesforceandMarketingCloudAccount Engagementpreferred.
  • Proven ability to lead and inspire teamsdirectly manageothers towardsoutcomesand high-performanceandestablishteamoperating systems.
  • Secure and managevendors andbuild partnerships across diverse audiences.
  • Excellent written verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

Work Environment

The Managing Director generally works in an office environment but may occasionally be required to perform job duties outside of the typical office setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. The employee is not exposed to any adverse environmental conditions.

Our team brings community stakeholders together around a shared roadmap for the future using data and practitioner insights to inform effective policy solutions that accelerate progress toward our goals and strengthen our collective capacity to serve every student well.
