Responsibilities & Qualifications
The Novelis Davenport team is seeking a Mechanical Engineer. The Mechanical Engineer serves as a domain expert for finishing process equipment including cold mill annealing paint line and casting areas. This role provides engineering support for JTA projects design improvements and capital projects while ensuring safe and efficient operations. Responsibilities include leading moderately complex projects with regional impact using CAD software for equipment.
Responsibilities:
- Provide innovative ideas and engineering support for JTA projects.
- Provide support to the plant with regards to finishing equipment for day to day solving and for larger capital projects and participate in projects that generate IP.
- Use CAD software for design support and equipment improvements.
- Work with external suppliers on the design and testing of equipment and use equipment in a safe operating manner..
- Maintain patent reviews invention records and patent applications during initial product design work.
- Responsible for the quality of assignments with moderate scope and complexity involving application of standard scientific practices principles theories concepts and techniques.
- Propose justify and lead moderately complex projects for a site or segments of larger projects with regional or global impact.
- Work cohesively with teams of other engineers to complete project objectives.
- Manage and coordinate schedules for clear communications with project team and project collaborators.
- Plan for resources and expenditures that impact project timelines.
- Deliver data reports and communication to project partners.
- Perform all the above responsibilities with a safety-focused attitude.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering or related fields.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience or equivalent experience.
- Strong understanding of aluminum process and equipment.
- High level experience with Solid works design software.
- Intermediate experience with drafting techniques.
- High level skills in Microsoft Office (Word Excel PowerPoint).
- Ability to apply sound engineering and time management skills to accomplish a wide variety of technical tasks on the plant level some regional collaboration will be required.
- Ability to consider fundamental aspects in problem solving (e.g. economics operating maintenance and technical) in area of responsibility.
- Ability to effectively present technical information to peers or superiors in the technical community.
- Proven ability to work independently as well as lead/participate on teams and work in a matrix environment.
- Proven experience as a self-starter who effectively manages multiple tasks achieves results with minimal supervision and possesses excellent documentation and record-keeping skills.
- Position may require limited travel to work with other facilities to investigate process improvement activities that may be incorporated in the Davenport facility.
Preferred Qualifications
- Specific knowledge of rolled aluminum products and related processes with the ability to implement and identify simple or site-specific process improvements.
