Job Summary

Position Title: The Early Childhood Associate Teacher

Grades: Pre Primary Primary or Pre kindergarten (ages 2-6)

Reports to: Early School Division Director

Role Duration: 10 months full time at an hourly rate of compensation

School Day: 7:30a.m. to 3:30p.m. with the occasional faculty meeting from 3:45pm to 4:45pm

Position Summary: Ashley Hall School seeks a committed and professional Early Childhood Associate teacher who working in collaboration with the Lead teacher and Division Director will be instrumental in creating and implementing a dynamic daily program for young children based on the schools philosophy and values using constructivist theory and inspirations from Reggio Emilia.

At Ashley Hall our Associate teachers serve in one of two capacities:

supporting a single Lead teacher in the classroom or

supporting the community between multiple classrooms in case of absence additional classroom needs

Each one of the two Associate roles will involve participating in collaborations with colleagues within the Early School division and throughout the school as a whole. When working with a single Lead teacher the Associates role may include planning curriculum and instruction in literacy mathematics science technology and social studies alongside the Lead teacher. Additionally the Associate teacher attends all staff meetings and participates in required professional development

The specific type of Associate role for which the successful candidate will be hired will be based on school need and candidate experience and will be clearly discussed with the candidate during the interview process.

Other key responsibilities include

building relationships with each child and their family

providing a positive learning environment for children

using positive guidance techniques

partnering with parents about their childs progress

maintaining a clean and orderly classroom common areas and playground

working with the Lead instructor to provide differentiated learning which promotes

opportunities for growth of the whole child

a culturally responsive approach that engages and honors all learners and embraces diverse perspectives

problem-solving and conflict resolution

supporting the Lead teacher in their

preparation of digital media portfolios and documentation for students and families


Physical Demands

While reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this role this work involves approximately 50% standing/moving about the classroom and 50% bending and lifting. The ability to lift up to 40 pounds stand for periods of time sit on the floor and be active for up to 6 hours/day is required.

Education Preferred:

Associates Degree in a related field required a Bachelors Degree preferred

experience in a school setting especially an independent school

A commitment to the teaching field

Familiarity or experience teaching in a Reggio Emilia Program or an openness to learning about Reggio Emilia

A commitment to differentiated learning and a strong pedagogical approach to supporting diverse learners

A commitment to a culturally responsive curriculum and pedagogy to engage and honor all learners and embrace diverse perspectives

FLSA Status: Academic-Hourly-Non-Exempt

Since its founding in 1909 Ashley Hall has empowered young women to think critically act ethically and embrace their world with confidence. The School serves girls kindergarten through grade 12 (and is co-ed in its Early School ages 2 to 5 years). Ashley Hall provides a dynamic education grounded in a Reggio approach in its early School and an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme in its Lower School. It is currently in the strategic phase of a Middle Years Programme candidacy with the intention of pursuing Diploma Programme candidacy thereafter.
