St John is inviting expressions of interest for a Kaiako (Pre-Hospital Emergency Care & First Aid) to join our training team on a six-month fixed-term basis. This role will support the delivery of high-quality Pre-Hospital Emergency Care (PHEC) and First Aid education to a range of learners and communities within Te Tai Tokerau - Northland.
The Kaiako will:
- Deliver PHEC and First Aid training in a way that is engaging safe and aligned with St John standards
- Adapt teaching to meet the needs of different learner groups
- Travel as required to deliver courses in different locations (some flexibility in schedule is needed)
The person were seeking will be able to build strong relationships create culturally safe learning spaces and integrate Māori perspectives into how they teach.

Clinical / Educational Experience
We are looking for someone with:
- Experience in Pre-Hospital Emergency Care First Aid or a related clinical/operational field
- Experience as a tutor trainer facilitator or educator
- Strong communication skills and a learner-focused approach
- Willingness and flexibility to travel to where courses are needed
Te Ao Māori Capability (Essential for this Role)
For this specific position we are seeking one Kaiako who can confidently bring a Māori worldview into their teaching. We are specifically looking for someone who can:
- Use te reo Māori with confidence in training settings (e.g. for greetings introductions instructions explanations and general interaction with learners)
- Demonstrate understanding and correct use of tikanga particularly in how sessions are opened closed and conducted (e.g. karakia mihimihi manaakitanga whanaungatanga)
- Create a learning environment that is culturally safe and mana-enhancing for Māori learners
- Work collaboratively with Māori partners kaimahi and communities listening and responding in a way that respects local kawa and iwi/hapū relationships
- Reflect on and adapt their teaching practice so that it aligns with kaupapa Māori approaches not just translated content
