A vacancy has arisen for a Sgt (NCC) to serve as Air Weapons Range Controller (AWRC) at DIO Holbeach on Full Time Reserve Service (Limited Commitment)Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS) with an initial proposed start date of 04 May 2026 (or earlier/later subject to candidate status).
POSITION ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- AWRCs are responsible through their Senior Air Weapons Range Controller (SAWRC) to SO3 Special Use Airspace Manager (SUAM)/WO SUAM for the overall safety and efficiency of the AWR Control operation at their unit. The following specific responsibilities are applicable to the AWRC position:
- Air Traffic Service Provision to military aircraft conducting range operations and to other military or civilian aircraft operating within or adjacent to the Air Danger Area.
- Provision of separation and sequencing of aircraft utilising the Range; and between aircraft transiting the Range.
- Operational supervision of contracted civilian personnel in the aviation operating environment.
- Safety oversight of JTAC/TACP activity taking place on AWRs.
- Maintaining the ATC Watch Log & MOD Form 906A (Land Range Log) as detailed in ACAWEWROs General Orders.
- Where appropriately qualified undertaking Safety Management (SM) Trg or Stds Team responsibilities iaw the relevant TORs.
- Ensuring that any incidents or occurrences are promptly reported to both the TSO and 2 Gp Ranges Executive and that appropriate reporting action is taken iaw DSA ACAWEWROs and ASIMS.
- Embracing Flight Safety principles and ensuring compliance with MAA & BM Force SM policy.
- Deputising for the SAWRC when particular due regard should be taken of the requirement to keep both the AWR TSO and 2 Gp Ranges Executive informed of any pertinent issues.
- Ensuring by use of eHIAT/WDZ that the safety traces for all permitted weapon events are contained wholly within the Surface Danger Area or are otherwise permissible using Clear Range Procedures.
- Carry out associated duties as directed by SO3 SUAM WO SUAM or the SAWRC.
