AECOM is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern to jour our Buildings Places team in Winnipeg MB. This internship provides an excellent opportunity for aspiring mechanical engineering students to gain hands-on experience and apply their academic knowledge to real-world projects.
This position is for a summer term starting in May 2026.
This role involves providing technical and administrative support to the Mechanical Engineering team in Winnipeg and other groups across Canada as required.
Job responsibilities included but are not limited to:
- Perform mechanical engineering calculations under the guidance of senior mechanical engineers or technologists.
- Assist in equipment selection and coordination with equipment sales representatives.
- Review contractor shop drawings and respond to requests for information during construction.
- Prepare and assemble technical specifications reports and other project documentation.
- Support the design team in achieving engineering deliverables such as drawings specifications and analyses.
- Work closely with and under the supervision of experienced engineers and technologists.
- Collaborate with other disciplines as part of a multi-disciplinary project delivery team.
- Comply with applicable regulations standards corporate procedures and sound engineering practices.
- Gain hands-on experience to bridge the gap between academic learning and professional practice.
Qualifications :
Minimum Requirements
- Currently in pursuit of a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering
- Must have completed three (3) years of study in the relevant field
- Strong academic performance and enthusiasm for engineering principles
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency in CAD software preferably AutoCAD and/or Revit
- Exposure to HVAC plumbing and/or fire protection systems.
- Familiarity with mechanical codes and standards (e.g. ASHRAE NFPA or local building codes).
- Previous co-op or internship experience in the construction or mechanical engineering industry.
- Competent in Microsoft Office Suite (Word Excel PowerPoint)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to producing high-quality work
- Ability to manage time effectively and meet project deadlines
