Job Description Summary

The Director of Experiential Learning leads vision planning implementation and assessment of the Deacs Do: Engaged Learning Empowered Futures experiential learning initiative for the undergraduate College of Arts & Sciences at Wake Forest University. The Director works with faculty staff and administrators to generate and maintain the momentum of the initiative collaborate effectively to achieve and evaluate desired outcomes and build a shared foundation for the long-term success of experiential learning. A visible and dynamic campus partner the Director builds cross-campus relationships and fosters collaboration and coordination of existing experiential education programs to expand and enhance access and opportunities for undergraduate students.

Job Description

Essential Functions:

Experiential Learning (EL) Development and Implementation

  • Collaborate with faculty leaders and administration to develop and implement experiential learning initiatives in the College and establish a foundational framework for future expansion of EL across the University. Develop an infrastructure to grow and sustain WFUs commitment to experiential learning.
  • With faculty and administrative leadership assemble and coordinate advisory boards and committees for specific EL initiatives.
  • Define and hire the essential staff positions to support the implementation of experiential learning initiatives.
  • Manage the day-to-day implementation of strategies in the Deacs Do initiative.
  • Coordinate the administration of EL impact assessments to track student outcomes and success in EL initiatives. Prepare and disseminate impact results with advisory boards and stakeholders; recommend and implement strategies for program improvements.
  • Establish and maintain procedures for the efficient flow of project reporting for the progress adaptation / changes and overall effectiveness of EL initiatives in the College.

Partnership Development / Campus Coordination

  • In partnership with the Center for the Advancement of Teaching and other offices coordinate professional development programs for faculty and staff in experiential learning pedagogy and adoption of the WFU experiential learning framework in curricular and co-curricular opportunities.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff in the WFU School of Business to ensure consistent experiential learning offerings for all undergraduate students.
  • Collaborate with campus offices and individuals who oversee the Universitys external partnership development to enhance and expand opportunities for experiential education (OCCE OPCD University Advancement Government Relations Corporate and Foundation Relations Presidents Office).
  • Establish and maintain effective interaction with the College Schools and operational areas of the university to facilitate communication and collaboration in experiential learning initiatives.

Promotion and Marketing

  • Create and implement internal public awareness and communications to increase the visibility and accessibility of experiential learning initiatives and opportunities for students staff and faculty.
  • Collaborate with University Marketing and Communications for external communications about EL opportunities and impacts.
  • Develop and maintain an Experiential Learning website print and media materials in the College.

Supervision Budget and Resource Management

  • Determine and recommend annual and long-term resource needs to the Dean for EL initiatives and the implementation of experiential learning programs.
  • Manage the EL budget to plan and process expenditures review and recommend budget requests to support initiatives and experiential learning development activities.
  • Supervise College staff hired to support experiential learning.

Other Functions:

  • Generate an annual report.
  • Provide consultation for College faculty and staff looking for experiential learning opportunities and development at Wake Forest.
  • Engage in professional development and update knowledge of experiential learning best practices.
  • Serve on relevant university committees as needed.

Required Education Knowledge Skills Abilities:

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited university.
  • 5 years of experience in higher education and 3 years of experience in experiential education program administration or assessment.
  • 3 years of experience as direct supervisor for professional staff.
  • Extensive working knowledge of best practices and emerging trends in experiential learning.
  • Demonstrated success in experiential education implementation including direct engagement with students.
  • Strong skills in strategic planning and project management.
  • Excellent time management organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Accomplished communication and team-building skills and demonstrated ability to work with faculty students and staff from a variety of backgrounds
  • Experience in the development and management of budgets

Preferred Education Knowledge Skills Abilities:

  • Masters degree from an accredited university
  • 5 years experience in experiential education program administration or assessment
  • Experience teaching experiential learning course(s)
  • Knowledge of more than one domain of experiential learning and High Impact Practices
  • Experience using student e-portfolio systems

Accountabilities:

  • Supervises professional staff.
  • Responsible for EL annual budget development and management

Physical Requirements:

  • Sedentary work primarily involves sitting/standing; communicating with others to exchange information; repeating motions that may include the wrists hands and/or fingers; and assessing the accuracy neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned.
