Under the responsibility of a Senior Editor you will be responsible for covering general news in the Ottawa and Gatineau region.
You have lots of ideas on how to tell stories in an original way. You know how to write edit and format digital news content and you enjoy feeling the pressure that comes with covering breaking news.
You have a good knowledge of the National Capital Region you are sensitive to the issues that affect people you understand the socio-economic dynamics of both sides of the Ottawa River and you understand the importance of the public service in the region.
You like working collaboratively and innovating and you have an interest in producing content intended for other Radio-Canada platforms.
The work is governed by Radio-Canadas journalism and programming policies standards and practices.
This is a replacement position lasting more than six (6) months with the possibility of extension.
Please note that this reporter position is a full-time on-site role from Monday to Friday from 12:15 P.M. to 9:00 P.M.
Your responsibilities:
Quickly write texts for breaking news for digital and organize online news content.
Take care of the layout of our digital stories with the best photos headlines and leads as well as links and other multimedia content.
Have a good knowledge of different digital formats and best practices.
Suggest original story ideas and produce them for digital services and news.
Do interviews to feed web production write texts and cut clips for radio.
Use content from other SRC/CBC platforms for digital services: write and format stories with striking headlines photos videos audio and illustrations using the latest information and metrics audience.
Prepare news stories simulated live stand-up for the radio (occasionally).
We are looking for a candidate with the following:
University education (or the equivalent) in journalism communications or a related field
Three (3) years directly related experience that includes proven ability in the field as well as knowledge of TV/radio broadcasting and Radio-Canadas various platforms
Relevant experience putting together and delivering reports and live hits
Strong interviewing writing and storytelling skills
Knowledge of digital media and social media ability and willingness to innovate and explore new ways of doing things
Knowledge of CBC/Radio-Canadas mandate and its Journalistic Standards and Practices
Knowledge of Eastern Ontario and Outaouais social political cultural and economic life
Familiarity with general regional provincial and national current affairs
Superior French-language skills (spoken and written) and intermediate knowledge of English (spoken oral and written) (BBB)
Valid drivers licence
Knowledge of production applications (e.g. iNEWS Dalet MediaCentral) in use at CBC/Radio-Canada is an asset
Solid news sense editorial judgment and decision-making skills
Very high aptitude for learning new technologies
Resourceful and self-starter
Interpersonal communication and teamwork skills
Ability to plan organize and coordinate your day-to-day work so as to meet tight deadlines; ability to work well under pressure
Creative enterprising and inquisitive approach to fact- and news-gathering
Willingness to travel and work flexible hours
The work takes place on site but the person chosen must also be able to produce content directly on the field
Open to feedback keen interest in digital desk work
