The performing arts are an essential component of our whole-child approach and we strive to cultivate creativity communication and confidence in every student. We are seeking a dynamic Drama/Theatre Teacher to lead our K8 drama program and help students explore the transformative power of the performing arts.
Position Summary
The Drama/Theatre Teacher will design and implement a developmentally appropriate theatre arts curriculum for students in grades K8. This role includes teaching acting fundamentals stage presence improvisation script work and production skills as well as coordinating school plays and performances. The ideal candidate is energetic student-centered and skilled at fostering creativity in a supportive structured environment.
Responsibilities
Develop and deliver standards-based instruction in drama and performing arts for grades K8.
Teach core theatre concepts including acting techniques voice and movement improv character development and ensemble work.
Plan and direct school-wide performances such as plays showcases and special events.
Manage all aspects of production including rehearsals staging props costumes and student crew support.
Collaborate with other teachers to integrate drama into cross-curricular projects.
Create a classroom environment that encourages expression collaboration and creativity.
Assess student learning and provide timely feedback to students and parents.
Maintain materials props costumes and classroom resources.
Support the mission culture and expectations of the charter school.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Theatre Theatre Education Performing Arts or a related field required.
Valid teaching license or eligibility for licensure preferred (state-specific).
Experience working with elementary and middle school students preferably in an educational or theatre setting.
Strong classroom management and student engagement skills.
Ability to plan and lead theatrical productions and events.
Strong communication and organizational abilities.
Preferred Skills
Experience directing youth productions.
Background in technical theatre (lighting sound set design) is a plus.
Experience in charter or K8 environments.
Ability to collaborate effectively within a team setting.
