Job Summary

Reports To: Building Principal

Position Purpose: The job of the In School Suspension Paraprofessional was established for the purpose/s of overseeing students assigned to in school suspension; documenting student behavior; providing information to teacher administrators and/or other personnel. This position will assist students in improving their work study skills class behavior and positive self-image.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED; if the position is Title I funded then 48 college hours or passing the state-mandated Paraprofessional test is required
  • Skills in the use of computers
  • Good interpersonal skills including the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Good organizational skills
  • Ability to successfully accomplish/complete the annual in-service training
  • Conscientiously accept and follow directions
  • Adaptable to a variety of situations

Physical/Emotional Requirements:

(The incumbent may be required to use the below requirements during any part of the working day.) While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to walk. The employee frequently is required to stand and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; use hands and fingers handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently list and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Provide instructional assistance and encouragement to students to complete their assignments.
  • Maintain discipline in the In-School Suspension Program.
  • Assist in implementing behavior plans as defined by the teacher(s) administrator and/or counselor for the purpose of developing and/or improving students basic social and interpersonal skills.
  • Keep records and complete necessary reports for the program on a timely basis.
  • Consult with teachers daily and make appropriate reports regarding student progress and assignments.
  • Confer with students individually and/or in groups to modify unacceptable behavior and emphasize positive skills.
  • Work with teachers and counselors to identify students in need of additional assistance from outside community groups or agencies.
  • Attend and participate in staff development and training sessions.
  • Clarify the purpose goals and policies of the In-School Suspension Program for teachers parents and volunteers.

Terms of Employment: 9 months; salary and work year to be determined by the Board of Education.

Evaluation: Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Boards policy on evaluation of classified personnel.
