Other Conditions:

Evening weekend and or distance offerings for UH Maui College and or Outreach sites (Hana Lanai Molokai) may be assigned as part of the regular workload.

Positions may be converted from 9-month to 11-month based on program/operational needs.

This is NOT a remote position the job requires in-person work.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Under the general supervision of the BUS/HOSP Department Chair teach culinary-related credit courses and assist in the development and management of the Culinary Arts Program.

Perform related work activities including but not limited to:

  1. Advising and counseling students
  2. Assisting in campus-related activities
  3. Participating in faculty/administrative committees community service and in-service training
  4. Maintaining an approved program of professional development and self-improvement activities
  5. Collecting data and preparing reports (such as Annual and Comprehensive Program Reviews)
  6. Preparing/adapting/revising Student Learning Outcomes and Assessment strategies for all courses
  7. Independently planning organizing and carrying out instructional and non-instructional assignments
  8. Other Duties as Assigned
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors Degree in Food Services AND three (3) years related work experience may include professional training

OR

Associates Degree in Food Services ANDfive (5) years related work experience may include professional training

OR

15 college credits in Food Services AND seven (7) years related work experience may include professional training

OR

Masters recognition by the Food Service Community AND 10 years of related work experience may include professional training

Desirable Qualifications:
  1. Successful teaching experience in a community college culinary program or equivalent as substantiated by student peer and administrative assessments.
  1. Work experience as a corporate chef chef proprietor or sous chef in a hotel free-standing restaurant or institutional food service establishment with experience in supervising multiple operations and in supervising and training subordinate employees.
  1. Expertise or experience as an institutional purchaser/buyer in a restaurant or food service operation.
  1. Current sanitation certificate.
  1. Food and beverage procurement costing preparation service and safety/sanitation skills.
  1. Knowledge of operating and service procedures in quick service limited service and full-service dining establishments.
  1. Working knowledge of various traditional and contemporary food preparation styles.
  1. Understanding of classic and contemporary food terminology.
  1. Involvement as a judge mentor or coach in local or international culinary arts competitions.
  1. Active involvement in related professional associations.
  1. American Culinary Federation certification at or above the Certified Working Chef level documented ability to work with a variety of cultures and audiences.
  1. Experience in computer applications in the hospitality industry.
  1. The ability to apply knowledge of Native Hawaiian culture to effectively collaborate with multicultural groups and individuals from diverse academic cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
