Electrical Contract Inspectors (Waste Services) oversee contract work between the City of Edmonton and maintenance contractors. They are involved in all phases of the work from identifying the specific work to be performed to preparing tenders and scopes of work to evaluating bids and monitoring work in progress. They ensure that specifications and standards are met and that the work is completed within the terms of the contract. They also perform site inspections and evaluations of work performed on industrial plant equipment and assets to determine current maintenance status and condition.
What will you do
Safety Management:
- Manage Prime Contractor status
- Ensure safety compliance and address violations
- Report safety concerns to supervisors
- Provide site orientations
- Coordinate pre-ground disturbance tasks
- Attend safety and operational meetings
Operational Management:
- Identify work required based on client needs
- Create Scope of Work documentation
- Monitor contractors to ensure quality timeliness budget adherence and regulatory compliance
- Identify and correct scope deviations; create deficiency reports
- Coordinate multi-trade jobs
- Develop and maintain schedules with stakeholders
- Prioritize tasks
- Communicate plans and updates
- Develop and maintain KPIs; review with contractors
- Upload documentation into SAP
Inspections:
- Coordinate inspection schedules with clients/partners
- Perform routine inspections to verify equipment safety and functionality
- Supervise and inspect contractor repair and maintenance work
- Conduct final inspections order remedial work and authorize payments
- Complete final commissioning on maintenance work and projects
- Prepare and coordinate inspection reports
- Grade 12 or equivalent
- Certification at the Journeyperson and Masters levels in the Electrical Trade
- Master Electrician Certificate
- A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in an electrical trade supplement in contractor project supervision site inspections job estimating and construction costs specification preparation and the interpretation and application of regulatory codes as they project to projects. Experience operating computer systems and utilizing office automation software
Assets:
- A combination of construction and maintenance experience in an industrial environment
- Knowledge of construction process and documentation
- COE Procurement and Contract Management Certification
Skills Required for Success:
- Strong technical writing and communication skills are essential
- Remain current with knowledge of Electrical trade codes and practices
- Confidence in a meeting environment with construction industry professionals
- Competence to interpret and analyze engineering drawings P & IDs reports and data
- Solid understanding of and experience in all aspects of electrical equipment commissioning maintenance repair refurbishment and related activities
- Broad knowledge of electrical trade practices
- Comprehensive understanding and application of all related regulatory safety codes
- Strong understanding and adherence to Corporate procurement policies and procedures
- Strong computer skills and proficiency in SAP Plant Maintenance Google applications
- Understanding and the ability to develop testing protocols and procedures for trade related equipment and systems

Conditions of Employment:
- Valid Alberta Class 5 Drivers License (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Drivers permit is a requirement of this position

- Successful candidates will be fit for a respirator and compliance with the City of Edmontons Code of Practice for Respiratory Protective Equipment including medical monitoring is a requirement of this position

- May be on an on-call rotation
