Job Title: Special Education teacher

Compensation: $65000-$105000 depending on experience and credentialing

Essential Functions:
The Special Education Teacher is a 12-month professional role reporting to the Director of Education. This position provides instructional leadership in academics life skills and vocational training based on IEP goals and diploma or district requirements. Collaborating closely with clinical staff the teacher develops individualized evidence-based programs tailored to each students strengths needs and interests. Responsibilities include task oversight staff training and mentoring in instructional practices. Instruction occurs in the school on school grounds and in the community emphasizing hands-on student-driven activities that support academic and vocational development. The role involves close communication with all staff discretion with confidential information and participation in various educational programs and events.
Deliver academic life skills and vocational instruction aligned with student needs.
Conduct educational assessments interpret results and recommend instructional strategies.
Develop and adapt curriculum to individual student strengths and needs.
Collaborate with faculty clinicians and parents to support student independence communication and behavior.
Implement evidence-based instructional practices and task analysis.
Provide guidance to classroom staff to ensure high-quality instruction.
Support students with self-care needs and behavior management as required.
Participate in the IEP process develop goals and monitor progress through data collection and analysis.
Maintain records and collaborate with special area teachers and clinicians.
Communicate effectively with parents and community groups per policies.
Stay updated on laws regulations and best practices in special education.
Utilize technology for organization data collection and reporting.
Maintain confidentiality and foster a culturally responsive collegial environment.

Requirements:
Experience & Education:
Masters Degree in Special Education or related degree (Required)
Current NY StateSpecial Education teaching license (or equivalent)or eligibilityto obtain one (Required)
Demonstrated knowledge of federal law (IDEA) state law and national standards related to special education (Required)
Demonstrated knowledge and experience with technology applications as they relate to instructional resources and strategies (Required)
Experience with middle and high school students with Autism and related disorders (Required)
Credentials in HS middle or adolescent special education (Preferred)
Expertise in a specific academic content area (Preferred)
Knowledge of best practices in special education (Preferred)
Knowledge of educational and vocational assessment tools (Preferred)
Knowledge of data collection and analysis for decision-making (Preferred)
Knowledge of a second language (Preferred)
Skills & Abilities:
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills
Regular and consistent attendance
Skilled in crisis intervention and managing crises/behaviors in the classroom/educational setting
Ability to use Shrub Oaks technology system(s); skilled using Microsoft 365 applications
Ability to adapt remain flexible and make appropriate decisions under pressure and evolving circumstances
Ability to get TCIS trained and remain current on all required training courses

Physical Requirements/Demands:
A workday regularly includes multiple or conflicting demands deadlines and time pressures; work regularly requires sustained concentration. Standing for sustained periods of time bending stretching walking up and down stairs (building has 6 floors) around a hilly campus as needed may also require walking between floors or between buildings at a moments notice. May need to lift/moveboxes up to 25 pounds and move/rearrange furniture.
Work Environment:
We are a boarding school located on a 127-acre campus. The work environment will include both indoor and outdoor spaces mostly inside the classroom or educational environment. May include work within the residential setting. The building has 6 floors accessible by staircases and elevators.
