Serves as the parish Sanitarian 5 responsible for supervising environmental health programs such as retail food safety drinking water and sewerage systems to protect public health. Oversees staff performance administrative reporting inspections and enforcement activities and ensures compliance with state and federal regulations. Performs statewide fieldwork investigations and community outreach requiring routine travel beyond the domicile parish. Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a current Louisiana Sanitarians license plus one of the following:

Four years of experience as a sanitarian; OR

A masters degree in public health food science dairy science environmental or sanitary science or one of the physical or biological sciences plus three years of experience as a sanitarian.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in the Molluscan Shellfish program require that applicants complete the Louisiana Boating Education program and be certified by the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:
  • Manage and direct parish environmental health programs including retail food safety drinking water institutional inspections and individual/commercial sewer systems to ensure public health protection.
  • Plan supervise and evaluate the work of environmental health staff including assigning duties monitoring performance reviewing reports approving travel and leave and ensuring compliance with agency policies.
  • Prepare and maintain administrative records and required reports such as daily activity logs time and attendance reimbursement forms inspection frequencies and performance reports.
  • Review and process applications and fees for individual sewer systems private wells and regulated establishments; research and maintain records to support inspections permitting and public records requests.
  • Conduct statewide fieldwork and enforcement activities including inspections investigations compliance monitoring enforcement actions disaster assessments and participation in disease outbreak response.
  • Provide technical assistance and represent the agency offering guidance to the public collaborating with local officials and community partners and participating in interviews training educational sessions and court proceedings as needed.
