DescriptionThe Locksmith Specialist ensures the security of the UTC campus from the perspective of campus locks and keys. This position designs entire access control keying systems for buildings and departments on campus and manages those systems. These duties are highly sensitive and require the utmost security and confidentiality.
Position may require making emergency repairs after normal working hours.
ResponsibilitiesEnters and maintains computerized record-keeping of all key systems/assignments on campus doors using the Keystone system
Responsible for maintaining the computerized Keytrack key allocation/checkout system
Makes campus signage on emergency basis
Performs locksmith duties for the campus including making keys for faculty staff and students and building cores for locks
Designs security keying systems to determine access/keying requirements for buildings departments and rooms within departments
Performs extensive computerized record-keeping system for relating keys/cores to individuals rooms departments and buildings
Performs design reviews and initial checkout on UTC capital projects as it relates to doors door hardware locks and access control design and assists in the development of UTC design standards for this hardware
Shared responsibility to troubleshoot install and repair locks panic hardware and closers including repairing or replacing doors and other door hardware
Require interaction with contractors including obtaining estimates and verifying quality of work with a thorough knowledge of UTC design standards which could include designing repair parts for doors and windows to be custom fabricated
Maintains understanding of campus card access system to the extent that this position could perform basic troubleshooting on system end devices (door locking devices)
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
Computer literacy
Demonstrated ability to perform detailed and tedious work tasks
Ability to read and understand blueprints
Ability to use a variety of tools including small hand and power tools
Ability to understand master keying systems and their design.
Ability to maintain a database of information of an extremely critical nature
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Carpentry skills related to repairs of doors and door hardware

QualificationsMinimum: Typically requires high school diploma and two years of relevant locksmith experience designing master key systems combination door cores and making keys and replacing and installing doors and window hardware; or an equivalent combination of education training and experience.
Preferred: Vocational or technical training and advanced locksmith experience is preferred.
