Job Duties:

The University of Wisconsin - Stout is seeking a Study Abroad Advisor to support UWStouts study abroad and study away programs through student advising recruitment program coordination and creative outreach. Working under the direction of the Assistant Director for Study Abroad this position is part of a collaborative team that assists students in exploring global learning opportunities and navigating the associated academic cultural and logistical processes.

The Advisor contributes to program visibility and student engagement through innovative outreach and communication strategies including digital tools and modern platforms aligned with students evolving communication preferences. Strong candidates will demonstrate intercultural competence creativity excellent communication skills organizational ability and the capacity to manage multiple tasks effectively.

This FASLI-exempt position requires occasional evening and weekend work and may involve domestic or international travel. The anticipated start date is February 1 2026.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum / Required

  • Bachelors degree.
  • Study or work abroad experience.

Highly Desired/Preferred

  • Masters Degree
  • Experience in developing and executing instructor-led and student direct enroll and exchange programs.
  • Experience working with students family members faculty and others from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Strong communication organizational problem-solving analytical and time management skills.
  • Ability to establish priorities possess strong attention to detail multitask and ability to work independently and collaboratively as a team member.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate in the planning and implementation of large-scale events orientation programs cross-cultural activities and student support services with the campus and community.
  • Experience with marketing trends graphic design and social media.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and ViaTRM (or other study abroad software).

RESPONSIBILITIES

60%Study Abroad/Away Advising & Instructor-Led Program Support

  • Advise students exploring direct exchange and instructor-led study abroad programs in coordination with the Assistant Director for Study Abroad.
  • Guide students through application and pre-departure processes including general support related to academics finances logistics and cultural preparation.
  • Maintain accurate program and applicant information in ViaTRM and assist with the management of communication workflows.
  • Contribute to planning and implementation of pre-departure orientation.
  • Provide general information on passport and visa processes and refer students to appropriate resources when needed.
  • Support post-program activities including evaluation distribution re-entry resources and recognition opportunities.
  • Assist program leaders with essential aspects of developing promoting and administering new and returning instructor-led programs.
  • Communicate with academic departments regarding program offerings and student participation as needed.
  • Deliver occasional outreach or informational sessions to instructors and staff.

30%Marketing Recruitment & Creative Outreach

  • Develop and implement marketing and recruitment activities that promote study abroad participation.
  • Conduct classroom presentations information sessions tabling and other campus-based outreach activities.
  • Create and maintain digital and print promotional materials to enhance program visibility.
  • Use contemporary communication tools including digital media and social platforms to effectively reach and engage students.
  • Organize and participate in campus events such as the Study Abroad Fair and program information sessions.

10%Administrative & Miscellaneous Responsibilities

  • Assist with coordination of visits from partner institutions and international delegations.
  • Contribute to office projects event planning and strategic initiatives.
  • Support data reporting processes and other administrative needs within the Office of International Education.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission and goals of the study abroad team.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Minimum starting salary of $42000 commensurate with qualifications and experience. A six-month probationary period is required.

  • Identifies and refers students to appropriate institutional resources and follows-up on referrals
  • Provides guidance and reviews documentation for registration and academic credit transfer requirements according to policies and procedures for international travel and study
  • Advises domestic students about international study opportunities
  • Identifies plans and delivers international education programming
