Position Title: Shipping & Logistics Manager
Department: Operations / Reports To: Operations Manager
Salary: $60000 - $75000 plus bonus / FLSA Status: Exempt
Position Summary
The Shipping & Logistics Manager oversees all activities related to the movement storage and distribution of finished goods. This role ensures timely cost-effective and compliant shipping operations while optimizing logistics processes vendor relationships and inventory flow. The manager leads the shipping team coordinates with Production and Customer Care and maintains a high standard of accuracy safety and service reliability.
Key Responsibilities
Shipping Operations
- Plan coordinate and manage daily shipping and logistics activities.
- Ensure accurate and safe handling of product through the packing and shipping preparation process.
- Ensure accurate and timely preparation of all shipments bills of lading export documents and carrier pickups.
- Investigate any product damaged in shipping or transport. File associated claims and follow up through closure and process improvement.
- Seek opportunities in process improvement shipping quality and improved customer delivery.
Logistics & Transportation Management
- Select and evaluate freight carriers negotiate rates and manage service performance.
- Optimize transportation modes and routes to reduce freight costs and improve delivery times.
- Track shipments and proactively resolve delays or exceptions.
- Communicate to key stakeholders shipping plans timing and associated risks.
Inventory & Warehouse Coordination
- Work with production supply chain and other teams to ensure inventory accuracy and efficiency.
- Ensure proper material flow staging and documentation.
- Implement efficient space utilization packaging standards and material-handling processes.
Compliance & Documentation
- Maintain compliance with DOT OSHA export and other regulations.
- Oversee recordkeeping for shipments freight claims and audit documentation.
- Ensure all labeling packing and shipping documentation is completed to customer and regulatory requirements.
Leadership & Team Development
- Supervise train and schedule shipping team.
- Conduct quarterly check-ins performance reviews and support employee development and performance.
- Document shipping and logistics processes creating SOPs to support the department for use in training Shipping and Logistics employees.
- Promote a safe organized and teamwork-driven environment.
Process Improvement & Reporting
- Analyze logistics KPIs including freight spend on-time shipments and inventory accuracy.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
- Collaborate with operations to forecast shipping volume capacity needs and resource planning.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Supply Chain Logistics Business or related field (preferred).
- 2-5 years of experience in shipping logistics or supply chain management; manufacturing experience strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of freight LTL/TL parcel international shipping customs and regulatory compliance.
- Experience with ERP systems and logistics software.
- Ability to write and document SOPs for shipping and logistics processes.
- Strong leadership communication stakeholder engagement and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Forklift certification and experience required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally.
- Ability to stand walk or operate material-handling equipment as needed.
- Warehouse and office environment exposure.
