Position Summary
The Epic Application Manager oversees the support and development of a specific set of applications that are aligned to multiple business areas. These applications are critical to the success of UHN for delivering safe and effective patient care. The primary function of this role is to ensure that applications within this domain are managed and operated 24/7 with the highest degree possible in terms of performance reliability and experience for end addition this role oversees the engagement with the business area served by each application and is an integral part of the dialogue with clinicians nurses and other business stakeholders to help shape changing requirements (regulated and non-regulated) in application configuration and development as well as quality of service. They are one of the primary escalation paths for incidents that may occur during operations in this environment and must manage high pressure situations in a manner that allows for safe effective resolution. The Epic Application Manager will oversee sub-teams within their groups that are led by subject matter experts in a particular area. The Epic Application Manager is additionally responsible for tracking budgets for their overall teams and maintaining a balanced bottom line at the end of year. The Epic Application Manager will need to have a solid understanding of how their teams operate within the context of their peers and the overall strategic mission of order to satisfy all of the requirements in this role the Epic Application Manager will need to be able to work independently and be able to deliver against the articulate an overall vision for how systems and services within their area can be improved within the constraints of available resources and the overall roadmap set forward by their supervisors and UHN leadership.
Duties
- Manages a team and/or sub-teams that are responsible for delivering applications operationally
- Ensures that there is 24/7 support and coverage for critical applications related to patient care
- Works with peers and leadership both within and outside of Digital to understand and manage priorities
- Attend key meetings in clinical and business areas under their domain to facilitate situational awareness of issues that will help shape work by their team
- Directly oversees the work of staff at times and act as a mentor for team leads and staff
- Is available at all times or has effectively found coverage for major escalations and incidents
- Understands the business areas under their portfolio to be able to work with them as peers and help advise and guide their change requests
- Understands the overall IT Architecture at a level that ensures that they are aware of upstream and downstream changes
- Understands the overall Data flows and provenance of data at UHN
- Works closely with the Epic product/technical director to facilitate change requests and changes from upgrades including ensuring that the right business stakeholders are aware of changes through various committees and working groups
- Manages all aspect of human resources
- Performs planning responsibilities.
- Performs quality management responsibilities.
- Manages the unit/department financial resources.
- Performs corporate management responsibilities that support and advance UHNs goals.
Qualifications :
- At minimum completion of a bachelors degree in a STEM field or recognized equivalent required.
- At minimum 6-8 years of practical and related experience or 2 years on-the-job training required.
