Job Summary

  • Manages overall activities and staff of the Chemistry department. 
  • Serves as technical expert providing scientific leadership and guidance to clients and staff. 
  • Trains staff on appropriate laboratory techniques and procedures. 
  • Ensures the Chemistry laboratory is cGMP compliant and audit-ready at all times. 
  • Oversees laboratory investigations for OOS and OOT events. 
  • Cultivates key client relationships. 
  • Participates in negotiating contracts. 
  • Provides information required for quoting. 
  • Helps to resolve Client complaints. Ensures client requests are met in a timely and effective manner. 
  • Responsible for protocol and reports write up and approval. 
  • Develops department plan to meet future client needs. 
  • In conjunction with the Site Manager plans and executes: staffing supply equipment and facility issues as necessary to properly run the chemistry testing department to meet client and SGS needs. 
  • Provides the Operations manager data for and feedback on monthly and yearly forecasts. 
  • Represents SGS during client visits and regulatory inspections. 
  • Conducts annual performance reviews of department staff. 
  • Has full supervisory responsibility of Chemists and Technicians both direct and indirect reports (hiring: interviewing selection; planning work scheduling performance evaluations performance management and termination for employees). 

Additional Information:

Salary: $90k to $100k

Qualifications :

  • Bachelors Degree in Chemistry Biology or related sciences discipline 
  • 7 years working in a Chemistry lab setting with experience following strict safety standards 
  • 2 years of experience with Quality Management System ISO 9001 and ISO 17025 compliance AND 
  • 5 years supervisory experience 
  • Masters degree in Chemistry or related scientific disciplines 
  • Experience working in a multinational organization
