Job Summary

General Summary

  • Under direct supervision of an RN who is physically present on the unit the Nursing Graduate will perform focus assessments after the initial assessment or after the first assessment of the shift is performed by an RN. The Nursing Graduate will perform and document routine clinical tasks/procedures taught within the nursing graduates generic nursing program. Communication with the RN is pivotal to their role to assist with appropriate progression of the patients plan of care. Patients served include adult through older adult.

Reporting Relationships

  • Reports to RN for specific patient related duties. Overall supervision from Manager/Charge Nurse of patient care unit. Reports to clinical partner during educational program. Overall supervision from Director of Hospital Learning while in educational program.

Qualifications :

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing school of nursing or university; eligible to apply for Maryland State Board license.
  • Must be accepted into the Baltimore Washington Medical Centers Novice RN internship program.

Working Conditions

  • Works inside in a clean well-lighted environment. May be exposed to frequent interruptions and multiple crisis situations.
  • Potential for regular exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous materials requiring the observance of Standard (Universal) Precautions and safe handling practices.
  • May be physically and verbally abused by patients. Works a regular assigned shift but may be expected to work on rotating shifts including weekends and holidays as necessary.
  • This position has been classified as medium exposure risk and requires the completion of an annual respirator mask fitting.

Physical Requirements

  • Requires bending/stooping/crouching/kneeling approximately 50% of the time in the delivery of patient treatment.
  • Requires standing and walking approximately 80% of the time; with occasion stair climbing.
  • Requires lifting and positioning patients weighing in excess of 100 lbs. with the assistance of others utilizing proper body mechanics in accordance with Safe Patient Lifting policy.
  • Requires pushing/pulling equipment weighing up to 100 lbs.; requires carrying supplies/equipment weighing up to 20 lbs. Requires substantial movements/motions of the wrists hands and/or fingers as in performing treatment procedures.
  • Requires good visual acuity to read patient records and equipment monitors; requires adequate ability to receive detailed information conveyed through oral communication in the process of evaluating and treating patients approximately.
  • Requires the ability to communicate detailed or important spoken instructions to team members or patients accurately clearly or quickly
