Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit including GO Expansion Light Rail Transit routes and major expansions to Torontos subway system to get people where they need to go better faster and easier. Our Ontario Line project office is seeking a Senior Manager Ontario Line to provide strategic leadership and subject matter expertise for the delivery of the subway program. The position will lead a team of senior advisors that manage project governance policy and delivery and provide strategic and authoritative infrastructure delivery advice and project management expertise on the Ontario Line subway project.

What will I be doing

  • Establish and provide direction and operational oversight to a range of governance and project committees (e.g. Project Executive Committee Project Technical Committee) comprised of Metrolinx executives and senior leadership including management and professional staff and other stakeholders.
  • Lead the development and coordination of memos reports submissions and other materials for a range of purposes including senior management briefings the Metrolinx Board of Directors and its committees contributing to provincial government submissions (e.g. Cabinet/Treasury Board submissions) and the coordination of corporate reporting and information requirements (e.g. briefing/information notes slide decks etc.).
  • Plan and oversee a regular cadence of project- and CPG program-level briefings and reports and coordinate the development of materials to support effective decision making on- and off-project.
  • Work in conjunction with Metrolinxs other business units operational divisions and various internal stakeholders to build strong relationships and provide strategic advice on project delivery issue identification current status and technical information to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Effectively communicate concerns complexities general project technical information and other considerations to varied audiences including senior project leaders and other managers and project teams.
  • Proactively manage and report on budgets schedules risks and issues including early identification of potential impacts to assigned projects and the overall Ontario Line project.

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need

  • Completion of a degree in Civil Engineering Planning Public Administration (or a related discipline) or a combination of education training and experience deemed equivalent.
  • Demonstrated project management experience in heavy civil transit and/or municipal infrastructure project delivery.
  • Leadership skills including very strong written and verbal communication as well as interpersonal consultative and negotiation skills to establish and maintain business relationships and partnerships within the organization with relevant provincial ministries other jurisdictions service providers and stakeholders.
  • Skilled in issues analysis risk mitigation and issues management to identify complex and contentious project and/or contract issues and make authoritative decisions/recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Strong knowledge of and demonstrable experience with project management principles and practices to provide senior leadership and oversight to the project and cross-functional teams.
  • Risk analysis and risk mitigation experience in order to actively manage and resolve project risks or escalate program impediments with the potential to disrupt or jeopardize the project.
  • Ability to coach mentor and manage a team of technical project professionals.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to manages complex project issues and risks and facilitate effective resolution.
  • Possession of a related professional designation such as and/or PMP is an asset.
