Job Summary: The Hemodialysis Registered Nurse provides specialized nursing care to patients requiring renal replacement therapy in an acute hospital setting. This role involves performing and monitoring hemodialysis treatments assessing patient responses and ensuring safe and effective delivery of dialysis care. The RN collaborates with nephrologists dialysis technicians and interdisciplinary teams to support optimal patient outcomes. This is a 36-hour/week day shift (9:00 AM 9:30 PM) position with every other weekend required and participation in holidays and on-call rotation.
Responsibilities
- Deliver safe high-quality hemodialysis care according to prescribed treatment plans.
- Perform pre- intra- and post-dialysis assessments including vascular access evaluation.
- Monitor patients hemodynamic status and intervene promptly in response to complications.
- Set up operate and troubleshoot dialysis machines and equipment safely and accurately.
- Manage a 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio in accordance with staffing guidelines.
- Administer medications as ordered and document all interventions accurately in EPIC (highly preferred).
- Provide patient education on kidney disease dialysis processes medication regimens and dietary considerations.
- Collaborate closely with nephrologists dialysis technicians and interdisciplinary teams.
- Support Med/Surg patient care responsibilities as needed (experience required).
- Participate in unit workflow including weekends holidays and on-call responsibilities.
- Maintain compliance with infection control patient safety and dialysis regulatory standards.
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of Hemodialysis experience Required
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg experience Required
- Minimum 2 years of overall RN experience
- Charge RN experience preferred
- EPIC EMR experience highly preferred
- Strong assessment skills and ability to manage dialysis-related emergencies
Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Required
Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) Required
License: Active New York State RN License Required
