DescriptionSalary: $74692 per year
Department: Microbiology
Physical work location: One Gustave L. Levy Place Box #1124 NY NY 10029
Name PI or Supervisor: Benhur Lee; ;
Web link to Lab: link to Dept: Contact: Molly Deroy; ;
ResponsibilitiesDetails of Research Project:
Cell biology of viral pathogenesis. The postdoctoral fellows research will focus on replication dynamics of henipaviruses and/or related (re)emerging paramyxoviruses including characterizing how pro- and anti-viral host factors modulate the early and late stages of the paramyxovirus life cycle. They will bring a biochemical and biophysical perspective to projects in the lab. They will also help in identifying novel viral and host determinants that modulate viral replication and pathogenesis with the aim of developing strategies that might target these determinants. The postdoc is expected to learn and become proficient in applying AI models to multi-omic analysis to help advance their scientific work and that of the lab in general.
Technical Duties:
- Apply biochemical and biophysical analysis to paramyxovirus proteins and complexes critical for the life cycle of the virus with a special emphasis on henipavirus and (re-)emerging paramyxoviruses.
- Use reverse genetics to generate paramyxoviruses with relevant mutations that allow for structure-function analysis of viral replication budding or other virus induced sub-organellar complexes such as inclusion bodies or biomolecular condensates.
- Perform and teach protein synthesis/production techniques to other members of the lab.
- Partake in rotating lab responsibilities that contribute to a well-functioning lab.
- Join in all relevant intellectual activities of the lab and department.
- Proactively apply for eligible fellowships.
- Present his work at national and/or international conferences in consultation with the PI.
- Write and publish results in a timely fashion.
QualificationsEducational and other Requirements for the position: (1)PhD in an immediately relevant field. (2) At least TWO firstor co-first author publications from graduate work.
Experience Required: Research experience preferred but less than 9 months since defending PhD.
