Job Summary: The Cardio Surgical ICU Registered Nurse provides highly specialized complex care to postoperative cardiac surgery patients including those recovering from open-heart procedures and advanced cardiac interventions. This role requires expert-level critical care skills strong clinical judgment and the ability to respond rapidly in high-acuity environments. The RN collaborates closely with cardiothoracic surgeons intensivists perfusionists and multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe evidence-based care. This is a 36-hour/week night shift (7:00 PM 7:30 AM) position.

Responsibilities

Deliver comprehensive high-acuity nursing care to post open heart and complex cardiac surgical patients.
Monitor hemodynamics cardiac rhythms ventilators chest tubes drips IABP and other advanced cardiac support devices as applicable.
Perform frequent assessments and intervene promptly in emergencies or clinical deterioration.
Administer medications manage vasoactive infusions and titrate drips based on provider orders and patient response.
Collaborate with cardiothoracic surgery teams cardiac intensivists and support services to coordinate and implement care plans.
Document all assessments interventions and outcomes accurately in EPIC (highly preferred).
Educate patients and families about surgery recovery medications and postoperative expectations when appropriate.
Maintain strict adherence to infection control safety protocols and evidence-based CSICU standards.
Participate in shift handoffs multidisciplinary rounds and unit-based quality initiatives.
Manage a caseload aligned with CSICU patient acuity and staffing guidelines.

Requirements

Minimum 2 years of Cardio Surgical ICU or Cardiac ICU experience in a hospital setting Required
Minimum 2 years of overall RN experience Required
Strong clinical expertise in post open heart and cardiac critical care
EPIC EMR experience highly preferred
Excellent communication critical thinking and rapid-response abilities

Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Required

Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) Required

License: Active New York State RN License Required
