Job Description Summary

The Generator Controls Projects Engineering Manager will provide strategic and operational leadership for the global execution of aftermarket and services (OTR) projects for Nexus Controls Generator Controls. This includes Excitation and Static Starter systems for customer-specific applications covering software design hardware definition packaged system design and support to assembly factory acceptance tests and site activities.

In this role you will own the performance of the Generator Controls projects engineering team driving delivery excellence continuous improvement and profitable growth. You will champion agile ways of working manage key KPIs partner closely with ITO NPI/Product Development and Product Line teams and develop new service offerings that enhance customer value and revenue.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

Strategic & Operational Leadership

  • Lead and develop a global team of hardware and software engineers delivering Generator Controls solutions for aftermarket and services projects.
  • Own end-to-end delivery of Generator Controls engineering scope for OTR projects ensuring on-time delivery quality and budget adherence.
  • Set clear technical and execution standards driving consistency compliance and best practices across projects and regions.
  • Manage organizational budget (headcount compensation and benefits T&L tools training) and ensure efficient utilization of resources.

KPI Management & Execution Excellence

  • Define monitor and continuously improve key KPIs (e.g. on-time delivery engineering hours vs. plan quality escapes rework customer NPS margin performance).
  • Use data-driven dashboards and regular operating rhythms to identify gaps define corrective actions and track progress.
  • Implement robust root cause analysis (RCA) and long-term corrective actions (LTCAs) to sustainably reduce defects and improve project outcomes.

Agile Ways of Working & Workload Management

  • Implement and champion an agile framework (e.g. sprint planning stand-ups retrospectives backlog management) to manage and prioritize work across the team.
  • Establish transparent workload and capacity planning to ensure balanced distribution of tasks reduce bottlenecks and improve predictability.
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement feedback and accountability within the team.

Customer ITO & Commercial Collaboration

  • Partner closely with ITO / Sales / Proposals teams to define optimal technical solutions support accurate scoping and estimating and de-risk complex bids.
  • Correlate legacy product capabilities with current and next-generation controls platforms guiding customers through migration and upgrade strategies.
  • Support strategic proposals and key customer negotiations with strong technical and execution credibility.

NPI / Product Development & Product Line Engagement

  • Work with NPI and Product Development teams to bring field feedback recurring issues and enhancement opportunities into product roadmaps.
  • Co-lead problem-solving for systemic issues driving long-term corrective actions that improve product robustness serviceability and lifecycle cost.
  • Influence Generator Controls product strategy from an aftermarket and services perspective ensuring new products and features are optimized for retrofit and upgrade projects.

Revenue Growth & New Service Offerings

  • Identify develop and standardize new service offerings (e.g. system studies performance assessments cyber & reliability upgrades digital enhancements) as part of upgrade and modernization projects.
  • Partner with Product Line and Commercial teams to package engineering analyses (system studies model validations fleet assessments) into value-added revenue-generating offerings.
  • Support margin expansion by optimizing solutions improving engineering efficiency and reducing non-value-added work.

Quality Compliance & HSE

  • Ensure regulatory and standards compliance across all deliverables (e.g. IEC/IEEE standards customer specifications internal QMS).
  • Promote technical rigor through design reviews peer reviews and lessons learned with a strong systems-thinking mindset.
  • Drive a no-excuses leadership culture grounded in integrity quality and HSE.

People Leadership & Talent Development

  • Recruit grow and retain top technical talent; provide clear career paths for both technical and leadership tracks.
  • Conduct regular performance management coaching and succession planning to build a strong leadership pipeline.
  • Foster a culture of ownership customer focus collaboration and inclusive teamwork across global locations.
  • Encourage continuous learning cross-training and knowledge sharing within and across teams.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum 810 years of experience in Excitation/Static Starter or Generator Controls projects in power generation or industrial applications.
  • Demonstrated experience managing engineering teams and delivering complex project portfolios.

Desired Characteristics

  • Masters Degree in Engineering Management or Business Administration.
  • 10 years of experience in project and/or systems engineering and/or project management preferably in aftermarket/services.
  • Significant experience with Nexus Controls products and Generator Controls applications.
  • Proven ability to define track and act on KPIs to drive performance improvement.
  • Experience implementing agile or lean frameworks within engineering or project organizations.
  • Demonstrated success collaborating with NPI/Product Development and Product Line teams to influence product roadmaps.
  • Strong commercial mindset with experience developing or supporting value-added service offerings.
  • Proven leadership capabilities with the ability to inspire motivate and develop diverse and remote teams.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead change and drive continuous improvement in a global matrix environment.

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position the pay range for this position is between $131700.00 and $219300.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110% 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidates experience education and skill set.

Bonus eligibility: ineligible.
