HWI has a fantastic opportunity to join our Operations Team as an EHS Intern.

Summary:

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Internship role provides a student with the opportunity to apply their academic knowledge and skills in a professional environment. This role will support HWI at the plant level. The Environmental Health and Safety Internship provides hands-on experience in the implementation and support of EHS programs and initiatives.

Responsibilities:

Assisting in ensuring compliance with Federal State and Local regulations while helping to promote a culture of safety and sustainability with the organization. Assisting in the development and implementation of safety and environmental programs and procedures.
Collaborating with team to track and analyze workplace incidents near misses and safety trends. Assisting with reporting and record-keeping ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Participate in safety committees and initiatives as assigned. Providing general administrative support as needed.

Requirements:

Currently enrolled in a degree program related to Environmental Science Occupational Health and Safety Engineering or a related field.
Must have completed sophomore year with a minimum GPA of 3.0
Must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA 3.0.
Strong interest in environmental health and safety issues.
Knowledge of OSHA regulations and environmental compliance standards preferred.
Basic understanding of environmental and safety risk management.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively.
Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word Excel PowerPoint).
Know and follow all safety rules and procedures.

Physical and Environmental Requirements:

Physical Activity: Requires 1/3 to 2/3 of time sitting and/or speaking/hearing. Requires less than 1/3 of time standing walking using hands and fingers reaching.
Lifting: Requires lifting up to 25 pounds less than 1/3 of time.
Vision: Requires accurate close and distance vision color vision and the ability to focus.
Environment: Requires 1/3 to 2/3 of time in an office setting. Requires less than 1/3 of time working near moving mechanical parts exposed to fumes or airborne particles toxic/caustic chemicals and/or vibration.
Noise: Requires exposure to very loud noise.
