HWI has a fantastic opportunity to join our Operations Team as an EHS Intern.
Summary:
The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Internship role provides a student with the opportunity to apply their academic knowledge and skills in a professional environment. This role will support HWI at the plant level. The Environmental Health and Safety Internship provides hands-on experience in the implementation and support of EHS programs and initiatives.
Responsibilities:
  • Assisting in ensuring compliance with Federal State and Local regulations while helping to promote a culture of safety and sustainability with the organization. Assisting in the development and implementation of safety and environmental programs and procedures.
  • Collaborating with team to track and analyze workplace incidents near misses and safety trends. Assisting with reporting and record-keeping ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in safety committees and initiatives as assigned. Providing general administrative support as needed.
Requirements:
  • Currently enrolled in a degree program related to Environmental Science Occupational Health and Safety Engineering or a related field.
  • Must have completed sophomore year with a minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA 3.0.
  • Strong interest in environmental health and safety issues.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and environmental compliance standards preferred.
  • Basic understanding of environmental and safety risk management.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word Excel PowerPoint).
  • Know and follow all safety rules and procedures.
Physical and Environmental Requirements:
  • Physical Activity: Requires 1/3 to 2/3 of time sitting and/or speaking/hearing. Requires less than 1/3 of time standing walking using hands and fingers reaching.
  • Lifting: Requires lifting up to 25 pounds less than 1/3 of time.
  • Vision: Requires accurate close and distance vision color vision and the ability to focus.
  • Environment: Requires 1/3 to 2/3 of time in an office setting. Requires less than 1/3 of time working near moving mechanical parts exposed to fumes or airborne particles toxic/caustic chemicals and/or vibration.
  • Noise: Requires exposure to very loud noise.
