Job Summary

Under the leadership of the Recreation Coordinator Program Instructors implement program-specific curriculum and leads/facilitates sports and/or enrichment recreation programs. Instructors are paid a min of 15 min for setup and 15 min for take down of each program worked. We are hiring for several program areas; qualified candidates can elect to work one or more of the programs listed below. Current program dates listed below option available to continue employment past listed dates as program schedules are determined.

Thursday Afterschool Program - Afterschool program held on early release Thursdays on site at Sun Prairie Elementary schools likely Horizon Elementary. Exact site assignment TBD. This position will lead and afterschool program site with 5-15 participants and work closely with program partners on site to collaborate on afterschool program curriculum. Minium pay for this program is $16.50/hr.
Thursdays 2025-2026 School Year (Sept-June)
1:00-5:30 pm
Monthly planning meetings date/time TBD.

Tumble Room - Tumble room features a rotating set of toys; gymnastics equipment and activities geared towards children aged 12 months 4 years old. Held at the Westside Community Services building instructor is responsible for setup and take down of gym/play equipment for open gym program and being the attendant on site during program.
Fridays January 9 - March 27 8:00-11:30am

Preschool & Youth Sports Programs -This position implements program-specific curriculum and leads/facilitates youth sports. Assigned programs will depend on scheduling needs and employee experience. Programs with immediate instructor needs include:

Kinder Kickers Soccer ages 3-4 & Soccer Stars ages 5-6
Mondays February 2-March 9 5:00-5:45pm Westside Elementary School Gym
Tuesdays April 14 - May 19 5:00-6:45pm Wyndham Hills Park

Little Sluggers T-Ball & Baseball ages 3-4 & 5-6
Thursdays April 16-May 21 5:00-6:45 pm Stoneridge Estates Park

Starting wage - $15.00 -$20.00 per hour based on experience and qualifications. The position qualifies for $.50 increases annually.

Position will stay open until filled.

Essential Job Functions

Major Duties/Essential Functions

  • Lead demonstrate and instruct participants in recreation programs and activities.
  • Provide an interactive positive fun and safe environment for the participants while effectively teaching provided lesson plans
  • Assist in the development of program curriculum and lesson plans
  • Supervise all participants
  • Listen respond and answer questions and concerns from parents and participants
  • Provide clear communication to and from coordinator participants and parents
  • Provide direction and support for Program Assistant(s)
  • Attend all required meetings and trainings
  • Other duties as assigned
Minor Duties/Responsibilities
  • Assist in setting up and cleaning up the facility/equipment
  • Notify coordinator of problems and concerns regarding equipment facilities participants and/or spectators
  • Distribute any needed supplies or information to participants/parents
  • Complete time card on time and hand into the coordinator
  • Arrive on time dressed appropriately according to the dress code and ready to interact with coworkers participants and parents

Requirements of Work

Experience/Education

  • Minimum of 1 years of working with youth/adults in a childcare/recreation setting required
  • Previous instruction or coaching experience preferred
  • Completed coursework in Early Childhood Education Elementary or Secondary Education Recreation or Sports Management or related coursework preferred but not required.
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of appropriate classroom management and instruction methods
  • Knowledge of standard safety practices
Skill/Ability
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Ability and willingness to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions
  • Ability and willingness to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff members supervisor(s) and the public and to deal with them in a courteous and tactful manner
  • Strong oral communication skills
  • Ability and willingness to maintain a safe and positive learning environment
  • Ability and willingness to supervise and maintain control of participants in a group and/or 1-on-1 setting
  • Ability and willingness to keep accurate records and complete any necessary paperwork

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to stand sit talk hear read and write. This position frequently requires an employee to walk or bend. He/she may periodically need to reach stoop crouch or kneel. The employee may be asked to clean pick up put away and lift/carry and/or move equipment weighing approximately 10 - 50 pounds.

Specific vision requirements for this job include close vision distance vision peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.
