Responsibilities
- Holds work leadership responsibility for FortisBC Gas technologies assigned to perform operation technology duties.
- Provides technical support system administration and system development including:
- acts as a functional expert for approximately all users;
- plans and coordinates system development;
- performs or coordinates system maintenance;
- troubleshoots a variety of system failures including communication equipment and determines the need for and arranges for emergency repairs;
- undertakes and participates in special studies and evaluation of SCADA software hardware and communications equipment resulting in reports and recommendations as to hardware and associated protocols software improvements enhancements adaptation strategies and selection;
- develops manuals system related procedures and provides training;
- administers system security on the SCADA system;
- identifies user requirements/problems and recommends possible solutions;
- recommends and implements backup and data security strategies.
- Monitors the overall integrity of FortisBCs Information System including:
- analyzes data researches discrepancies develops and implements solutions;
- investigates potential sources of errors and coordinates the implementation of corrective measures;
- coordinates and participates in regular audits.
- Assists in the development modification and maintenance of software.
- Coordinates recommends and implements major system upgrades integrations and segregations as a result of corporate strategic changes.
- Performs a full range of complex technical and statistical functions:
- gathers and analyzesdata;
- completes risk evaluations of various alternatives;
- interprets results of analysis;
- prepares reports and makes recommendations based on analysis.
- Assists in the preparation of the annual budget and monthly variance reviews and reports by compiling and analyzing statistics. Assists in analyzing cost control on an ongoing basis.
- Establishes and maintains liaisons with stakeholders including:
- discusses business practices mutual needs concerns and activities;
- coordinates negotiates implements and monitors agreed upon pilots;
- maintains liaison with other hardware/software specialists as required.
- Maintains liaisons with Operations Engineering Measurement MIAS Marketing and other gas utilities in Canada and the U.S.
- Provides technical advice training and guidance/direction to related groups on system.
- Maintains a current knowledge of new developments in computer and information technology by attending conferences seminars and reviewing technical papers.
- Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties which do not affect the rating of the job.
- May be required to travel.
Requirements
- Completion of a recognized diploma in STEM.
- Seven (7) years directly related relevant experience.
- Immediate knowledge of Data centre technologies virtualization storage backup networking security and all related supporting infrastructure.
- Superior interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Competency in managing small to medium sized projects.
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills including ability to work in a fast-paced changing environment.
- Working Knowledge of Field Instrumentation Telemetry Protocols and Process Control/Automation.
- Superior oral and written communication and presentation skills.
- Valid Class 5 British Columbia Drivers License.
