What is the COVE Internship Program

We are looking for bright talented individuals at the post-secondary level interested in the marine sector who are looking to gain valuable hands-on work experience. You will be placed with a host company in the marine sector and will be working on a core project for their business. Projects areinterdisciplinaryand students will be collaborating closely with other students and staff from different disciplines.

The COVE internship is a collaboration withnumerouscompanies that are leaders in the marine and marine technologysector. We are diligent in placing students in a role with a company that is well aligned with their discipline of study skillset and future career ambitions. Canadas marine sector is growing and thriving and contributes millions of dollars to our national economy on an annual basis. • Internship Eligibility:

• • Open to post-secondary students across all disciplines (i.e.Environmental Sciences Statistics Engineering Computer Science Business Marketing and Communications etc.)

• • Students must be actively enrolled in a post-secondary program at the time of the summer internship

• • Based on the required skillsets placements are typically geared towards second-year undergraduate students and above

• • Collaborative self-starter

• • Open to learning

• • Have experience or an interest in the marine sector

• • International students must be eligible to work in Canada and have a valid study/work permit

The Opportunity:

The Sensor & Equipment Applied Technologies Applied Research Centre (SEATAC) is an ocean technologyfocused applied research group within Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC). SEATAC works closely with industry government and academic partners to design build test and deploy marine and oceanographic instrumentation sensing systems and data acquisition platforms. Our work supports innovation in coastal monitoring marine operations environmental sensing and ocean technology development with a strong emphasis on hands-on prototyping field validation and real-world deployment.

What you will be doing:

The Ocean/Environmental Engineering Technologist will support SEATACs applied research projects focused on the design development testing and deployment of oceanographic instrumentation and monitoring systems. Projects may include sensor integration mechanical system design prototype development and field deployment in coastal and nearshore environments. You will work primarily from SEATACs COVE workshop and offices as well as aboard SEATACs marine research vessel for fieldwork.

Key Project Deliverables

• Support for field deployments and participation in field operations aboard the SEATAC research vessel including:

• • Assistingthe vessel captain and research team during deployments.

• • Supporting the safe operation of equipment during field activities.

• • Collecting field data using oceanographic and environmental sensors.

• Data collection quality checks organization and preliminary data analysis.
• Technical summaries test reports and contributions to project documentation.

What you will bring:

• Enrolled in the NSCC Oceans Technology program or a similar college-based program focused on marine technology.
• Experience operating a marine vessel with practical knowledge of navigation vessel maintenance and safety protocols.
• Strong technical skills for fieldwork including the ability to assist with the installation maintenance and operation of marine technology systems.
• Ability to work in challenging field environments with attention to safety and technical accuracy.
• Must hold Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP) Certification.
• Additional certifications related to marine safety or vessel operation.
• Experience with electrical wiring or mechanical system diagnostics.
