Position Summary:
The Trauma Program RN Manager provides clinical and operational leadership for the hospitals trauma program ensuring the delivery of coordinated high-quality care to injured patients across the full continuum of care. Working in close collaboration with the Trauma Medical Director and an engaged interdisciplinary team this role supports a strong culture of teamwork shared accountability and open communication focused on patient safety and quality outcomes.
The Manager oversees compliance with American College of Surgeons verification standards North Dakota trauma requirements and Trinity Health policies while leading program development performance improvement education and outreach initiatives. This position plays a vital role in maintaining trauma designation and advancing evidence-based trauma care within a well-organized supportive environment that values collaboration professional expertise and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate the development implementation and evaluation of trauma program activities in partnership with the Trauma Medical Director and clinical leadership.
- Oversee trauma performance improvement processes including case review data validation and regulatory reporting.
- Facilitate interdisciplinary communication among emergency surgical critical care and ancillary teams to optimize trauma patient care.
- Lead trauma education efforts including staff training community outreach and program readiness activities aligned with ACS requirements.
- Prepare and maintain documentation policies and evidence needed for ACS verification and state trauma designation.
- Collaborate with CEPS nursing and medical staff to strengthen trauma processes resource utilization and quality outcomes.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
- Current or temporary RN license in ND or compact RN licensure.
- Verified as an Advanced trauma course provider (ATCN TNCC FNATC or TNS). Instructor preferred.
- Membership in professional trauma organizations.
Educational Requirements:
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program. BSN required; MSN preferred.
- Knowledge of ICD9 and ICD10 AIS and ISS coding preferred.
- A minimum of 16 hours of external trauma related continuing education per year.
- Must complete the American Trauma Society - Trauma Program Management Course within one (1) year of hire and the Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine AAAM/AIS scoring class during the next availability.
Experience Requirements:
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years clinical experience as an RN trauma or critical care preferred.
- Leadership/management skills preferred. Excel and Microsoft Office applications proficiency.
Special Skills or Training Requirements:
- Able to work independently. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely through written and verbal communication in English.
- Detail oriented and with an aptitude for accuracy.
- Ability to utilize critical thinking skills to problem solve.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Ability to meet deadlines ensuring accuracy and reliability.
Physical Requirements:
The Trauma Program Manager frequently moves throughout clinical areas including the Emergency Department trauma bays operating rooms and inpatient units to assess workflow and support trauma related activities. The role may involve periods of standing walking and occasional assistance during trauma simulations or equipment handling requiring moderate physical effort. Adequate vision hearing and communication abilities are essential for reviewing clinical data observing trauma care processes and responding to emergent needs.
Environmental Requirements:
Work is performed in hospital clinical settings with exposure to fast paced high acuity environments such as emergency and surgical areas. The role may encounter infectious materials bodily fluids cleaning agents and variable noise levels. Frequent interruptions time sensitive tasks and emotionally intense situations are inherent to trauma care settings.
