Job Summary

The Hyundai Card Exchange Visitor at The Museum of Modern Art is supported by a multiyear partnership with Hyundai Card that promotes curatorial and artistic exchange with Korean art and culture through exhibitions scholarly research and travel programs.

The Hyundai Card Exchange Visitor Program offers an opportunity for an emerging or midcareer curator with deep knowledge of Korean modern and contemporary art and culture to interact with colleagues across the Museum of Modern Art gain a deeper understanding of museum practices share their own knowledge with the Museums staff and audiences and conduct their own research with access to MoMAs archival and scholarly resources as well as those broadly available in New York City. This is a full-time twelve (12) month opportunity at MoMA in New York New York beginning June 2026 and ending June 2027.

Highlights of the Exchange Visitor Program include:

  • Participate in conversations and shadow curatorial meetings related to the Hyundai Card First Look series a program at MoMA that highlights recent acquisitions across all curatorial departments; and the Hyundai Card Digital Wall a spotlight for digital art and artists using emerging technologies located in the Museums Gund Lobby.
  • Receive mentorship and guidance from an established MoMA staff member who is assigned to lead First Look or Digital Wall projects.
  • Support guided bibliographic and object research draft loan and other correspondence and prepare related onsite and online materials for exhibitions and programs.
  • Assist in supervised research and preparation for potential acquisitions for the Museum Collection including biographical and bibliographic research maintenance of files communication with dealers galleries collectors and artists as necessary.
  • Participate in visits to other galleries and museums stay informed of current publications and the latest research conducted by others in the museum industry and share thought ideas with MoMA staff.
  • Participate in conversations and dialogues with MoMA staff and invited guests to explore new ideas on public engagement in a museum context arts leadership and the role of cultural institutions. â Explore opportunities to publish on MoMAs digital onsite and printed platforms.
  • Build relationships and enhance networks with MoMA professionals as well as distinguished outside scholars artists historians critics and other experts.
  • Develop a proposal for consideration for a program installation or exhibition to be hosted at Hyundai Card exhibition spaces in Seoul (potentially jointly organized with MoMA).

Selection and Qualifications:

The successful candidate will be an emerging or mid-career museum professional with the following qualifications and qualities:

  • Deep knowledge in modern and/or contemporary Korean art and culture.
  • Familiarity with MoMAs Collection and programs and a desire to learn more about MoMAs structures and practices.
  • Minimum five years of work experience in the museum (or related) field.
  • Masters or Graduate Degree in Art History (focus on Asian art or Korean art preferred).
  • A demonstrated record of curatorial achievement.
  • Fluent in English-language with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Fluent in the Korean language.
  • Background in new media technology (or related field) preferred.
  • Demonstrated research and writing capabilities of the highest level.
  • A team-driven approach and ability to work in a demanding professional environment.
  • The ability to work independently with self-direction and a sense of discretion.
  • Proficient knowledge of basic office procedures software and skills.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary is $53000 per annum plus benefits which include medical and dental coverage and paid vacation time. The program also offers per annum an additional $5000 housing allowance.

On-Site Work:

The selected Exchange Visitor will be required to be present on-site at the Museum of Modern Art in New York New York five (5) days a week.
