Job Summary:
The Flood Control District has the mission to reduce the risk of flooding in Harris County the third most populated county in the United States with a population in excess of 4.7 million including the City of Houston the nations fourth largest city. The Flood Control District has jurisdiction over the primary stormwater facilities in the county which consist of approximately 1500 channels totaling nearly 2500 miles in length as well as more than 60 regional stormwater detention basins totaling more than 10000 acres and several wetlands mitigation banks including Greens Bayou.
The Harris County Flood Control District is seeking qualified candidates for the Development Inspector position which is responsible for inspecting civil construction and demolition activities within the Districts rights-of-way to ensure compliance with approved plans and District specifications. This role involves thorough documentation and coordination with various stakeholders. The position requires a proactive approach to maintaining the quality and compliance of construction and demolition activities within the District as well as the execution of additional duties as needed.
Essential Functions & Duties:
Inspection
Conduct inspections of civil construction work within the Districts rights-of-way ensuring adherence to approved plans and specifications. Oversee all demolition activities in accordance with established guidelines.
Document Management
Document and maintain accurate records of daily construction activities or demolition activities in the Development Coordination and Inspection Department (DCID) database for all assigned projects.
Capture and upload photographs of construction and demolition activities to the online repository for documentation purposes.
Collaboration
Coordinate and communicate effectively with the developers representative and District staff regarding project progress and any issues that arise.
Additional Responsibilities and Duties
Assume additional responsibilities as required adapting to the Districts evolving demands responsibilities needs and objectives.

Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Five (5) years experience in construction to include civil residential or a similar field.
Licensure:
Valid Class C Texas Drivers License
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and/or assignments.
Ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications.
Ability to work in an outdoor setting.
Can work independently with limited supervision relative autonomy and general review.
Can work well with the public interest groups government agency personnel and external organizations.
