Job Summary

Summary
Assists in the management of the Point-of-Care Testing (POCT) Program and supports all related laboratory services. Responsible for the operations and regulatory compliance of waived and non-waived POCT performed by inpatient procedural and operating room staff. Also supports offsite laboratory testing across MGH laboratories. Works collaboratively to ensure accurate and reliable testing competent staff and full compliance with all regulatory standards and agencies.

Essential Functions

Ensure policies Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and associated forms meet regulatory compliance requirements and reflect current practice.

Support SOP and practice standardization efforts across MGB POCT programs.

Provide training to all personnel performing POCT including initial training 6-month follow-up for new hires and annual competency assessments.

Provide ongoing education on Joint Commission/CLIA requirements quality control and good laboratory practices.

Manage regulated and non-regulated Proficiency Testing (PT) programs for POCT ensuring appropriate PT handling for each testing method staff rotation and completion of annual renewals signed by the CLIA Laboratory Director.

Perform instrument linearity checks calibration verification and biannual method comparisons.

Manage POCT interfaces connectivity and error resolution within middleware and EPIC Beaker.

EducationBachelors Degree Medical Technology required or Bachelors Degree Related Field of Study requiredCan this role accept experience in lieu of a degreeNoLicenses and CredentialsMedical Technologist (ASCP) - American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC) preferredExperienceClinical Laboratory experience as required to serve as the CLIA Technical Consultant 5-7 years requiredKnowledge Skills and Abilities- Must have the analytical abilities necessary to perform waived and non-waived test procedures with a high degree of accuracy and an understanding of their relevance to specific patient conditions. - Must have the ability to read comprehend and follow written procedures regulatory documents and verbal instructions. - Must have the ability to perform arithmetic algebraic and statistical calculations. - Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills necessary to work effectively and collaboratively with colleagues and patient care providers. - Must have technical writing ability and computer skills.
