Job Summary

We are working closely alongside with a local authority in Islington to assist with the appointment of a Principal Registered Building Inspector on a 2.5-months contract highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay: 418.00- 547.99 per day

Summary:

The Principal Registered Building Inspector is a senior position (Grade PO5) reporting to the Building Control Team Manager. The primary function is to lead and manage a professional team within the Building Control service. The role involves providing expert technical advice on building control matters and supervising the day-to-day activities of a plan checking and site inspection team to ensure technical and legal compliance with the Building Acts and Building Regulations.

Responsibilities:

Lead and manage a professional team supervising and coordinating the day-to-day activities of a plan checking and site inspections team
Provide expert support and advice to staff across a range of functions including Fire Safety CDM and structural safety
Ensure technical and legal compliance with the Building Acts and Building Regulations.
Ensure compliance with building regulations on council projects working with internal departments.
Instruct the Councils dangerous structures contractor (including outside normal working hours and at short notice) and participate in the Councils dangerous structure rota
Assist and deputise for the Building Control Manager in the provision of the Building Control service including the formulation and implementation of policy procedures and technical standards
Work with the Building Control Manager to implement a cost recovery model and meet income generation targets.

Qualification:

A BTEC qualification Degree or equivalent in a building construction related subject

Essentials:

Hold corporate membership of ABE RICS (Building Control) Institution of Structural Engineers or equivalent.
Significant appropriate post qualification experience in Building Control
Ability and experience of managing a team including monitoring workloads priorities and performance
Experience and knowledge of providing robust and defendable responses and decisions on legal and technical building control issues
Good knowledge and experience of working practices and relevant legislation and the ability to utilize this to ensure compliance including through enforcement action.
Ability to assess the structural safety of buildings and participate in the rota dealing with dangerous structures
