Position Summary

Under the direction of the AMC Secretariat (Health Unit) the Policy Analyst will be responsible for conceptualizing researching policy issues analysis strategic policy development drafting policy options and recommendations for an effective First Nations decision making process as it relates to the AMC Secretariat (Health Unit) and Jordans Principle.



Key Responsibilities

  • Develop policy options and alternatives aligned with the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs (AMC) goals and policy areas.
  • Research and contribute to policy development for the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs.
  • Network with organizations within AMC to compile pertinent information.
  • Understand and be aware of provincial and federal government legislation and bills pertaining to First Nations and provide an analysis on its implications to First Nations.
  • Identify resolve and define government legislation pertaining to Health and Jordans Principle.
  • Produce high quality documentation for reports briefing notes and legislative documents.
  • Review research recommendations and draft documents.
  • Draft various proposals including budgets for the AMC.
  • Work with the AMC database system and apply statistical methods and techniques to develop analytical information.
  • Attend meeting and/or conferences as directed and provide a report.
  • Prepare briefing notes and documentations for meetings and identify action items that pertain to the goals and objectives of the AMC.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor of Arts or a related discipline and/or a related equivalent demonstrated experience.
  • Experience in Health Jordans Principle MMIWG and two-spirited and LGBTQQIA.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Knowledge of statistical methods techniques and information to develop analytical frameworks.
  • Knowledge of First Nations/Indigenous research and evaluation methods and procedures.
  • Knowledge of First Nations culture history treaty and inherent rights.
  • Excellent verbal written inter-personal communication and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to provide analytical supports while managing multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office software Word Excel and Outlook.
  • Be able to follow office practices procedures and confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of First Nation people and communities in Manitoba.
  • Able to work flexible hours and travel upon request.
  • Must have a valid Class 5 drivers license and a reliable vehicle.
  • Must have a current satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Clear Child Abuse Checks.
