About the Role

At LauraMac we are modernizing the mortgage technology landscape through scalable intelligent and maintainable systems. As a Staff Engineer you will serve as a senior technical leader driving engineering excellence across multiple teams. Youll shape the technical direction of key systems mentor Tech Leads and lead cross-cutting initiatives that improve the efficiency reliability and quality of our platform built primarily with Java Angular and MySQL.

You will also play a key role in designing the architecture for LauraMacs NextGen platform building proofs of concept (POCs) and defining patterns and frameworks that will guide the future evolution of our systems. Your work will directly influence how the next generation of LauraMacs technology platform is built and scaled by Scrum teams.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Mentorship

Oversee and mentor 23 Tech Leads providing technical guidance architectural direction and career development support.

Review and advise on complex technical decisions across teams to ensure alignment with architectural principles and long-term scalability.

Act as a multiplier by raising technical standards and empowering Tech Leads to deliver at their highest potential.

Cross-Team Technical Influence

Lead cross-team initiatives that elevate engineering quality and velocity such as:

o Refactoring efforts to reduce technical debt.

o Partnering with the DevOps team to improve CI/CD pipelines and deployment reliability.

o Building and maintaining shared libraries and tools for common functionality.

Contribute reference implementations that set the standard for quality design and performance across the organization.

Enforce and evolve technical standards ensuring consistency in patterns frameworks and practices across all engineering teams.

Future Platform Architecture & Innovation

Lead the NextGen platform architecture design defining the foundational frameworks services and patterns for future scalability and innovation.

Build prototypes and POCs to validate architectural strategies emerging technologies and modernization opportunities.

Collaborate with Product and Engineering leadership to translate strategic goals into a technical roadmap and implementation plan.

Provide architectural blueprints best practices and migration paths for Scrum Teams to execute and evolve the platform effectively.

Systemic Ownership Areas

You will be the owner and champion of one or more key technical domains including (but not limited to):

A: Core Architecture & Event-Driven Systems Define and evolve the system architecture ensuring scalability resiliency and data integrity through event-driven design.

B: Platform & DevOps Drive improvements in our deployment pipelines cloud infrastructure observability and automation frameworks in collaboration with DevOps team.

C: Quality & Shared Frameworks Champion code quality testing strategy and the development of shared frameworks that promote maintainability and reliability.

Qualifications

Required:

10 years of software engineering experience with at least 3 years in a technical leadership role.

Proven success leading or mentoring other senior engineers or Tech Leads.

Deep hands-on expertise in Java (Spring Boot or equivalent) Angular and MySQL.

Demonstrated experience designing and implementing large-scale distributed systems or event-driven architectures.

Track record of driving impactful cross-team initiatives and systemic technical improvements.

Excellent communication skills and ability to influence across teams and levels.

Preferred:

Experience with mortgage technology or enterprise-scale SaaS platforms.

Familiarity with microservices asynchronous messaging and containerized deployments (Kubernetes Terraform etc.).

Experience conducting architecture POCs and defining modernization roadmaps.

Passion for developer experience automation and forward-looking technical design.

Understanding of CI/CD pipelines DevOps best practices and cloud infrastructure (AWS or equivalent).
